When Stellantis announced the end of production for the modern
muscle cars of Dodge, some panic set in and people undoubtedly went
looking for a last chance internal combustion powered Charger or
Challenger. It didn't take long for them to rethink their strategy
and have updated their direction that now includes the return of
the internal combustion engine. So, from now on, there will be pre
EV cars and post EV cars and the models that came before the shift
will be referred to as the originals, the grandfathers of whatever
modern muscle movement is yet to come!
For consignment, a 2011 Dodge Challenger R/T hardtop with a title
verified 42,128 actual miles. This modern muscle car features an
upgraded fuel system, a P1SC1 Procharger, and a consignor stated
521 horsepower along with some other go fast goodies!
Exterior
Right out of the Darth Vadar school of paint, here we have deep and
dark Brilliant Black Pearl that we're betting looks wet even when a
little dusty. I'll take my muscle car like my coffee, black and
robust! Hold the stripes and most of the emblems and throw on some
20-inch Mopar Heritage wheels for some polished bling and an eye
popping set of shoes onto which the car has been lowered. Let's add
a front air dam and rear spoiler to add muscularity. Dual
headlights harken back to the original and immediately cause most
of us to move right when we see them coming, while out back the
full width light bar is a fantastic feature. Some curb rash and a
single scratch make our short list of imperfections on this
mollycoddled Mopar.
Interior
Dodge keeps the dark palette going with the Slate monochromatic
interior, free of distracting accenting. It begins on the well
crafted doors, hard plastic with perforated leather inserts and
controls centered on the armrest. From there, its robust leather
bucket seats with tuck and roll inserts and obvious side support, a
pattern mirrored in the back but tempered for comfort rather than
lateral grip. A carbon fiber steering wheel leads to a panel of
white faced gauges, each with a black bottom and digital readout
while an added pair of Innovate gauges on the A-pillar monitor
vacuum and the air/fuel mixture. The center screen displays the
AM/FM/CD functions as well as navigation and is XM capable,
Bluetooth, and U-Connect accessible. From there, a simple A/C panel
fronts the center console with a fantastic Mr. Norms pistol grip on
a Barton shifter, followed by requisite cup holders and storage.
Slate carpet covers the floor cleanly, the headliner around is in
great shape, and the trunk is finished in smooth gray cloth
panels.
Drivetrain
Shrouded in plastic, the bay appears clean and houses the venerable
5.7 liter Hemi V8 here adorned with a P1SC-1 procharger, upgraded
injectors, and a Boost-A-Pump, capable of boosting horsepower to
521 according to our consignor who also mentions the powerplant was
tuned by DTP Racing. It's mated to a TR6060 6-speed manual
transmission sending power to the rear axle with 3.91 gears in a
limited slip differential. Also onboard are upgraded SRT exhaust
manifolds.
Undercarriage
Clean and dry underneath, a great platform for a few more mods!
First, the exhaust is a 3" system with an X-pipe and stainless
MagnaFlow mufflers, eventually finding its way to the rear where
square tips fit into the rear valance like perfect puzzle pieces.
Power disc brakes are on board with MOPAR branded calipers. Mopar
Performance lowering springs and Bilstein shocks are players in the
fully independent suspension system that places coil springs front
and rear.
Drive-Ability
Remember Julie Andrews singing, "The hills are alive, with the
sound of Mopar...." Yes, Morgantown wakes up to the impressive
exhaust note of this blown Hemi. Who says size doesn't matter? That
3" system changes the decibel level to something spectacular and
the car rolls onto the test loop with eager acceleration, nice
throttle response, straight tracking, and impressive handling
thanks to the lowered center of gravity. This well maintained Mopar
has all its functions working correctly and just like that, our
date with this air inducted gym rat of a muscle car is over. While
Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at
the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions
will be working at the time of your purchase.
If not for the fantastic retro design of the Challenger, we'd call
this a sleeper. No fancy graphics or devilish logos on this car.
Just straight black, shiny wheels, and an otherwise unremarkable
exterior. But there's big power here and nobody has to know that.
Onlookers will think you tweaked the exhaust but until you open the
hood, it's just the average R/T to most, and we like the stealth
approach! Don't hide in the shadows if this one piques your
interest!
