"With 260 wild horses under the hood, it's almost cruel to keep
Mustang GT confined to the parking deck. So today you hit the road
hard. You've got the wind in your hair. The sun on your face.
Mustang. It demands the freedom to flex its mighty muscles. But
you're happy to oblige." From the 2002 sales brochure.
For consignment, a 2002 Ford Mustang GT convertible showing 74,101
miles, but the true miles are unknown. This pampered pony has
FlowMaster stainless exhaust and a brand new set of Michelin Pilot
tires. Yes, only the best for this thoroughbred!
Exterior
More than 138,000 Mustang GT's were built in 2002 and this one left
the factory in Satin Silver Pearl paint, a fantastic neutral color
offset by the black features of the car which includes the canvas
soft top. Flush headlights give the car a slightly aggressive grin
augmented by the fog light integrated into the chin spoiler and the
scoop on the hood. 17-inch Bullitt wheels in argent with a polished
rim also look great and are wrapped in 245/45ZR17 tires with a mid
2024 date code. The tidy tail of the car carries flush mounted tail
lights with their heritage three sections over a smooth bumper
cover and some wind splitting slits in the valance along with cut
outs for the dual exhaust tips. Overall, the paint is in good shape
with imperfection notes as rock chips and scratches on the lower
and rocker panels, touches up chips, random scratches, a scuff in
the lower cladding, blemishes on the hood, and a crack in the cowl
panel.
Interior
There's contrast on the inside as well with Ford's Medium Graphite
combining with black plastic on the door panels replete with
swooping ovals and a carpeted lower insert. Gray leather covers the
seats with perforated and tuck and roll inserts, showing some
patina on the driver's side, a bit less on the passenger side, and
almost none on the rear 2+2's. A two tone steering wheel leads to
an instrument cluster inset in a cove, a symmetrical arrangement of
gauges, clean and easy to read. The center stack is also unassuming
and efficient, housing the A/C knobs, an AM/FM/6 CD radio, and
various switchgear. Things get serious in the center console where
the tall shifter rises from a clean black leather boot and the
plastic construction of the console includes a pair of cupholders
and padded armrest. Nice gray carpet covers the floor, the soft
top's headliner is in nice shape, and the trunk is lined in gray
cloth covered panels and is spotless.
Drivetrain
The clean engine sits under a less than perfect insulator pad, and
the rather busy bay houses the 4.6 liter SOHC V8, fuel injected and
rated at 260 horsepower. Behind it, a Tremec 3650 5=speed manual
that routes power to the Ford 8.8" in back with 3.27 gears and
TracLoc.
Undercarriage
Well, there's plenty of typical surface rust underneath on an
otherwise clean and dry undercarriage. Power disc brakes are
supplied to all four wheels and the FlowMaster cat back system
includes mufflers and polished exhaust tips. Suspension consists of
coil springs front and rear with a 4 link included in back.
Drive-Ability
Other than driving in the snow, Mustang GT's of this era do
everything well. They have great power, nimble handling, and a
comfortable, analog interior. This one checks all of those boxes,
providing the ability for a spirited run on a whim while being
completely happy as a daily driver. This well maintained Mustang
has all its bells and whistles working with nothing out of place.

Clean, simple, fast. What's not to love about this 2002 Mustang GT?
Still not convinced? How about the brand new tires and the ability
to drop the top at a moment's notice and feel the full effect of
the 260 horsepower V8? If you've read this far, you don't need
convincing. This would be the ideal new daily driver or weekend
cruiser, and you know it!
