Cruisin Classics is proud to present this absolutely stunning 1972
Chevrolet Chevelle. Every now and then, we get a truly exceptional
car that's a cut above all the rest - and this is one of those
cars! This car appears to have been restored between 2020 and 2024
(based on parts receipts) and has only 540 miles on it since
completion, so it is very fresh. This Chevelle is badged and
dressed as a Heavy Chevy because the restorer believed it to be
one. However, there is no way to tell if it truly is without a
build sheet or original documentation - neither of which came with
this car. In evaluating this Chevelle, we found many elements that
are exclusive to Heavy Chevys, but also some that are not correct.
In an instance like this, we simply judge the quality of the car in
front of us, and in this case, it is a top-quality build that
presents like a brand-new car from '72. Let's dig a little deeper
into this awesome Chevelle...
We can see in the restoration photos that come with the car (as
well as parts receipts) that all of the external panels on this car
were replaced, including the roof skin, rear quarters, doors,
decklid, hood, and fenders. The body was also completely
rust-proofed during the process. The workmanship is first-rate with
excellent panel fitment and gaps. The paint is a show-quality
respray in the original color - Golden Brown Poly (code 57 on the
trim tag). The paint is deep, smooth, and glossy with no notable
imperfections. Up front, you'll find a domed hood with hood pins
and a "HEAVY CHEVY" decal at the leading edge on the driver's side.
Beneath is a blacked-out horizontal grille flanked by round
headlights - all framed in chrome trim. Turn signal indicators wrap
around the front corners and are also chrome-trimmed. A
mirror-finish chrome bumper sits beneath. Note that all of the
chrome and brightwork on this car is in gleaming, like-new
condition. More of this brightwork is on display as you start to
move around the car, with rear hood edge molding, windshield trim,
driver's side mirror, door handles, and wheel lip molding. Running
down the side of the body from tip to tail are black stripes that
are a Heavy Chevy signature. In keeping with that theme, "HEAVY
CHEVY" decals also adorn both fenders. Adding to the muscular look
of the car are a set of US-made 5-spoke Crager SS wheels all
wrapped in BF Goodrich white-letter Radial T/A's. This Chevelle
also comes with a set of correct 6-slot OEM wheels with centercaps
(also shod in BF Goodrich Radial T/A's), should you choose to go
with a more factory-correct look. Around back, you'll find more
chrome window trim, another "HEAVY CHEVY" decal on the decklid, a
flawless bumper, and chrome exhaust tips. The undercarriage of this
Chevelle is so clean and impressive that you'd think it was built
yesterday. The gas tank, exhaust, suspension components (including
heavy-duty front and rear swaybars), fuel lines, brake lines, and
floorpans are all new. The floorpans and frame are painted in a
coat of fresh black paint, the headers glisten in the light, the
orange oil pan is perfect - looking at it, you'd swear that this
car has never been driven!
Pull the pins and lift the hood to find that the engine bay has
been given the same amount of attention as the rest of this
Chevelle. The underside of the hood is painted black, the heat
matting is new, the engine bay is freshly painted black, the block
is bright orange, and everything is organized and immaculately
clean. (Please note that we are relying on parts receipts and
statements of the most recent owner regarding engine internals that
we can not see.) Though this build is based on the Heavy Chevy
version of the Chevelle, this car has been blessed with a 454ci V-8
- available only in an SS model in '72 (the 402 V-8 was top-tier
for a Heavy Chevy). Surely, no one is going to complain about more
horsepower, though! The big block crate V-8 is built with an Elgin
ProStock cam, KB Performance pistons, a freshly machined
crankshaft, and Chevrolet Performance lifters. Compression is rated
at 9.0:1. This V-8 is topped off with '72 heads, chrome valve
covers, an Edelbrock intake, a Holley 750 4-barrel carburetor, and
a chrome air cleaner. Keeping everything cool is a new Cold Case
aluminum radiator with a chrome cover on top and a new shroud.
Another nice upgrade that has been added is quick-ratio power
steering. The 454 is mated up to a Muncie M20 4-speed transmission
that puts power to the pavement via a 12-bolt rear axle with 3.31:1
Positraction gears. Exhaust flows through coated Headman headers,
Headman X-pipes, and Flowmaster mufflers before exiting the tips in
the rear with an authoritative roar. All that power requires some
serious stopping ability, and this ride has that covered with power
front discs and rear drums with a new Delco booster, dual reservoir
master cylinder, and new proportioning valve.
Open the driver's door, and the dome light pops on to illuminate a
pristine black interior. The door panels look like new and appear
to be Chevelle/Malibu cards as opposed to the less ornate ones that
would be on a Heavy Chevy. The floor is covered in a rubber mat, as
Heavy Chevy's were, and outfitted with additional rubber Chevy
floormats. Both the front and rear bench seats have been restuffed
and covered in fresh black vinyl, and they're as comfortable as
they are good-looking. The black vinyl headliner is nice and tight,
and while looking up, you'll see that this car is equipped with
overhead shoulder safety restraints. Speaking of safety belts, this
Chevelle also has retractable front seat belts that are wired to
the "Fasten Seat Belts" light on the dashboard. Rising up from the
floor ahead of the front seat is a Hurst shifter with a white
pattern ball and black rubber boot for the 4-speed Muncie. You'll
find when you go to start the car and move the shifter that this
Chevelle is equipped with the reverse lock-out function. Ahead of
the driver is an OEM 4-spoke steering wheel with a working horn on
a tilt column. The dash is topped with a crack-free black vinyl
dashpad, and it is home to a cluster of round gauges that give it a
sporty SS look. The gauges all work as they should, and they
include amps, a 7K tachometer, a 120mph speedometer, temp, and
fuel. Included amongst the gauges is an original clock that has
brand new quartz internals and keeps time perfectly. Also in the
dash is an OEM AM/FM radio that has also had the internals
completely rebuilt, and it sounds great. The 2-speed windshield
wipers work just as they should, and so do the heat and fan
controls. Ahead of the passenger is an empty glovebox. Back in the
trunk is a vinyl mat and a full spare with a factory-style
jack.
If you're looking for a big block Chevelle that's so well-restored
that it looks like it just left the factory, then you are going to
love this '72! This Chevy is sure to turn heads and draw crowds
wherever it goes, and it will certainly be a highlight at any car
show or cruise-in! Cars like this don't come around very often, and
this is a golden opportunity to put one of the nicest '72 Chevelles
out there in your personal collection! Don't wait and miss this
