Few muscle cars command as much recognition and notoriety as the
Chevelle. One look at this 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 Tribute,
and it's easy to see why this car has left an indelible mark on
enthusiasts worldwide, despite being out of production since 1977.
Fully repainted in a head-turning Cranberry red complemented by a
set of full-length black painted SS stripes to go along with its
pinned cowl-induction hood, this Tribute shows off the aggressive
lines of the Chevelle from any angle.
Inside, we find a clean black vinyl interior. A center console
separates dual bucket seats, while a power-assisted, two-spoke
steering wheel sits just ahead of a big three-pod gauge cluster
featuring a 7,000 rpm tachometer and 120 mph speedometer. An
old-school AM radio handles limited soundtrack duties, while a
chrome cueball shifter combines with the easy-to-see shift pattern
plate to provide all the entertainment necessary for any long
drive.
Under the hood, we find a clean engine bay with a massive 454
cubic-inch V-8 engine, on display. This big block sports a single
four-barrel AVS2 carburetor and Edelbrock intake manifold, while
spent gases are expelled through a set of long tube headers and
guttural StreetMax dual exhaust. That power is routed through a
Muncie four-speed manual transmission before being sent to a
twelve-bolt rear end, which translates those ponies to the pavement
via a set of 15-inch powder-coated black wheels with Chevrolet
center caps, shod in Firestone Wide Oval tires.
