A full-Monty extensive restoration of this classic American icon, a stock 1959 Chevrolet Impala was undertaken in 2008, taking 18 months and many hundreds of thousands of dollars.
All new interior and body off the chassis in the process, the result was this vehicle won the top award in New Zealand in 2009 and 2010 – the Beach Hop, the biggest and best car show here. This car has been described as the best example in New Zealand.
The restoration process was documented over several editions of NZ Rodder.
The car has been meticulously cared for and garaged inside in a suitable climate.
It is still in a very good condition, paint work and chroming on the body is excellent with only 1 chip (as pictured) The spoked wires could use some attention.
Details:
Chassis was sandblasted, completely refurbished and re-bushed and painted.
Factory suspension, rear springs replaced and new shocks fitted on all four corners.
Brakes drums were reconditioned on rear, new disc brake kits fitted to front.
Aftermarket power steering fitted, factory column with mother of pearl steering wheel.
16 x 7 Wires from the USA with radial whitewalls 235/60 x 16.
406 cubic inch engine reconditioned with new pistons, heads, 4-barrel Holley carb.
Stock reconditioned 2 speed power glide transmission with column shift.
Body was dip stripped, new trunk floors and L) front floors. Rust removals and repairs were undertaken.
Chrome, aluminium and stainless all repaired and polished. Continental kit added at a later stage.
PPG paint – Verde Lichene and Celery Stalk with subtle green pearl.
Interior – new foam and aftermarket upholstery kit, new hood linings, carpet and door panel. Fastidious attention to detail inside with colour matching.
Audio – reproduction head deck from USA with small amp and IPod jack.
Electric windows.
Wheel display stands (x 4) are also included, as is a super large California car cover.
