For Sale: 1969 Chevrolet Corvair in Pembroke, Massachusetts

Vehicle Description

JUST 6,626 MILES!!! Number 4543 of the 6000 Corvairs built for the final, 1969 model year and yes, this is one of the 'Corvair Room' built cars! Just before half way through the 1969 model production, the Corvair was unceremoniously removed from the regular assembly line where it was being built in conjunction with the Nova and moved to a make shift afterthought assembly area in an old converted cafeteria at the famous Willow Run assembly plant. A dedicated group of workers were assigned to the room to finish the production of the final Corvair models. This is one of those cars.

A true survivor, this car is wearing all it's original Garnet Red paint. It's original and almost perfect black bench seat interior and 95 HP 164 cubic inch engine. Just a few options mentioned on the window sticker (which we have!) and that was the Powerglide automatic transmission, white wall tires and push button radio. The car is also equipped with a correct accessory clock so we can only assume that was added at the selling dealer.

Mancuso Chevrolet of Skokie Illinois ordered and sold this car new to a Mr. Clearance Mohr. Mr Mohr apparently read about the Corvair production coming to a cease and actually put a deposit down on this car on THE VERY DAY Corvair production stopped, May 14th, 1969. Yes, we have the deposit receipt! Very ironic, no? Well, it appears Clearance was expecting a big pay day in the future and just lightly drove his new Corvair over the next couple years, only accumulating 4,655 miles by 1971. That's when he put his future investment into storage at his Evanston Illinois home. Mr Mohr passed away in 1993 and his wife shortly after. Their only child, Eugene inherited the home and it's contents and kept everything as is for the remainder of his life which ended in 2012. That's when this car was sold for the first time since 1969. A local Chevy dealer took part in the cars resurrection and soon, the Garnet Red 500 was back on the road! Making it's way to Carlisle PA where it as sold in a collector car auction. A couple of Corvair enthusiast owners since (including myself who owned this car from 2015 to 2017) and now it's current caretaker who has decided to pass it on to it's next caretaker. We are assisting him with that processThe car is incredibly documented. Window sticker, original invoice, deposit receipt, it's first oil change receipt from Mancuso from 8/69, the Protect-O-Plate and folder and even the $150 coupon from GM given to all 1969 Corvair owners as a 'thank you' and a discount towards any new Chevy up through the 1973 model year. I guess they knew the resale would be less than favorable in the early 70's and I suppose they were right.

Fully serviced and ready to go to it's next deserving home. Recent work includes replacing the original push rod tube seals which were/are so notorious to leak. A tune up and tires with very few miles too.

Rarely do you come across one like this with all it's documentation! One just like it just sold on Bring A Trailer for $24K and that one was the blue so commonly seen and was a three speed stick. Sure it may have been a bit cosmetically better as this car has a few scars from storage (see pics) but to me, this one looks way better with it's color combination.  Be sure to check out ALL the pictures and YouTube video. It includes a full history on the car that I didn't detail above. This car is the real deal, folks
