Owning a Corvette is like being part of no other vehicle lineage in
the world. America's longest-running model, Chevy's halo car is now
in its eighth generation, and with each passing year, more of its
previous seven iterations become more collectible. The C3,
exemplified by this 1972 Chevrolet Corvette LS5 454 Stingray we
have for you, has been slowly gaining popularity in the hearts and
minds of collectors and enthusiasts over the last several years.
Fully repainted in this impossible-to-miss Mille Miglia-inspired
red, this numbers-matching big block is one of just 3,913 made for
the final year of the iconic LS5 V-8.
Inside and beneath those versatile T-Tops, a black vinyl interior
envelops you in a cockpit of gauges. The speedometer and tachometer
sit front and center, while atop the center stack, we find fuel,
water temperature, oil pressure, battery charge, and even an analog
clock display all the pertinent information you might need or want.
An original-looking AM/FM stereo handles soundtrack duties.
However, you'd be hard-pressed to try and drown out the sound of
that massive numbers-matching 454 cubic-inch V-8 sitting under this
'Vette's signature front-hinged hood. Rebuilt and upgraded with a
single four-barrel Holley carburetor. From the factory, the stock
LS5 was the biggest block made with hydraulic lifters, and even
with emissions regulations beginning to take hold, this V-8 still
managed to produce an advertised and impressive SAE net (versus the
1971 gross) 270 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. That power
is then funneled through a numbers-matching four-speed manual
transmission before being sent out to its standard-issue Posi rear
end.
