For Sale: 1976 Porsche 912E in Savannah, Georgia

Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1976 Porsche 912E. A one-year-only model intended to replace the 914 (until the 924 went into production) and positioned as a cheaper four-cylinder alternative to the 911, these cars have all of the style of a 911 (and arguably better handling characteristics) but at a more approachable price point. A Porsche PPS certificate confirms original color and that this example retains its original, numbers-matching engine. This 912E presents to a good driver standard overall; 15-inch steel wheels are wearing Goodyear all season tires. Additional details include H4 headlights, Porsche-script side lettering, and Pegasus decals on the fenders (the stickers on the rear quarter glass are easily removed if not to the liking of the next owner).

Interior likewise presents to a driver standard; sports seats are trimmed in black leatherette with cloth inserts. Nice, crack-free dash and Momo Prototipo steering wheel. Door panels and carpets are in good condition. Sunroof is inoperative. All gauges are working except for the clock.

Power comes from the same VW/Porsche flat four that powered the 914 2.0. The original, numbers-matching engine rebuilt in 2021 and retains its factory Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection (although factory smog equipment has been removed - likely only an issue for California buyers). A sport muffler with a center exit is fitted, and the axle shafts were rebuilt in 2022. Turbo tie rods. Runs and drives well, although the third-gear synchro is a bit crunchy. We've driven dozens of early 912s but despite hundreds of air-cooled Porsches coming through our shop this is the very first 912E we've had. It's not as quick as my '75 911S but the chassis feels lighter and very well balanced (no surprise given the lighter engine behind the rear axle). It's a fun car to drive in its own right.
