1986 Am General M35A2C 6x6 Cargo Truck

The AM General M35A2C 6x6 is a 2.5 ton, all wheel drive military cargo truck, nicknamed the "Deuce and a Half". Key features include a Continental multifuel LDT 465ci engine, a 5-speed Spicer manual transmission, a 2-speed Rockwell transfer case for 6x6, and an air assisted hydraulic brake system. AM General built the M35 series from the 1950's into the 1980's.

For consignment, a 1986 AM General M35A2C 6x6 cargo truck showing 8,431 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This truck received fresh paint in 2008 in the original style and is ready to rock and roll in your town's parade or make a showing at military vehicle gatherings around the country!

Exterior
Armed Forces camouflage based in Olive Drab green cover this rig including the canvas cover over the bed rails and since it's a relatively recent respray, the paint presents nicely and matched by the OD green wheels, all six of the 20-inch slotted steel units, plus one for the spare mounted underneath. Black stenciled writing is found throughout, including on the massive front steel bumper under the grated radiator protector and high hood. The cabin features a vertical windshield, wide trailer mirrors, and thankfully, a step up in textured steel with a jerry can bracket. In true military fashion, even the exhaust stack and rear mud flaps are Olive Green and there are exterior imperfections we would note on this massive rig with a purposeful, intimidating presence.

Interior
In the bed, it's a bit less showy but appropriate patina shows in the wooden benches that line the sides and steel floor below. No soft materials on the door panels of course, an olive green colors the steel here as well. The simple 70/30 bench is cloth covered and clean and a black steering wheel with patina fronts the utilitarian dashboard with a few gauges, switchgear, and the requisite instructional and spec plates on the flat faced green dash. The floor is barren and don't even try and order WeatherTechs for this rig, as the shifter rises from the transmission tunnel with some general patina that is welcome. Not much of a headliner to speak of, but these were not built with interior decibels in mind.

Drivetrain
Under the massive hood is a clean and green 478ci turbocharged inline six cylinder diesel engine rated at 135 horsepower. It's fuel injected and mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and 2-speed transfer case the splits power between the Rockwell/Timken axles with 6.72 gears. Some incredible stats include the 20 quart oil capacity, the 50 gallon gas capacity and an engine that weighs 1,650 pounds!

Undercarriage
Air assisted drum brakes are supplied front and rear along with heavy duty leaf springs at both ends. The single exhaust flows through a stock style muffler and up the stack. You don't have to crouch too low to see the underside of this behemoth and if you have ever had to do some work under there, it's easy peazy.

Drive-Ability
We roll this 14,000 pound beauty around the test loop and feel fairly invincible, looking for a hill to conquer. But for now, we're just checking functionality and indeed, this well kept M35 checks all the boxes for operational items. We'll reserve the white glove test for your Army Service Uniform. The enthusiasm for military vehicles has been around a long time and shows no sign of waning. This is a very nice example of an M35, striking in size and appearance, and is fully functional. People will be compelled to salute as you drive by, but you'll get used to it.
