For Sale: 1962 Maserati 3500 in Savannah, Georgia

Motorcar Studio in partnership with JFrazar Motorcars is pleased to offer this 1962 Maserati 3500GT Spyder with coachwork by Vignale. Beautifully presented in Blu Scuro (dark blue) over tan leather interior with a tan top, and complemented by a gorgeous set of Borrani wire wheels, this one one of only 242 Vignale Spyders produced. Under local enthusiast ownership since 2022, with prior known history dating back to 1981. Maserati Classiche documents indicate chassis 1337 left the factory originally finished in Oro Longchamps (gold) over a red interior. Giovanni Michelotti designed sports cars for Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Lancia, BMW, Triumph, and of course Maserati - we've long felt the 3500 GT Spyder was one of his most attractive and timeless designs. Very nice paint, body, bumpers, grille, trim and glass.

Interior and convertible top present well, showing minor patina and normal light wear but no damage to note. Wood-rimmed Vignale steering wheel is excellent; Jaeger gauges were rebuilt under prior ownership and are working. Heater has been deleted. Door panels, carpets and interior trim remain in very good condition. Correct quilted padding lines the trunk and backside of the hood.

The original, numbers-matching, twin-cam 3.5 liter aluminum inline six was rebuilt under prior ownership; it's fed by triple Weber DCOE carburetors and mated to a five-speed ZF manual transmission (the gearbox has been upgraded to a later version). This example has also been upgraded with four-wheel disc brakes.

Extensive service under present ownership includes a rebuild of the Marelli twin-plug ignition system, all fluids, filters, hoses, etc, a new clutch, a complete brake system overhaul with rebuilt calipers, restored brake servo, and rebuilt brake and clutch master cylinders, plus a major suspension overhaul with ball joints, tie rods, shocks and springs.

As a result of this comprehensive maintenance programme, the offered car runs and drives exquisitely well. Included with the sale are the factory tool roll, jack, spare, Maserati Classiche paperwork and many service records.
