This 1968 Mercury Cougar blends classic elegance with small block
performance. Under the hood is a reliable Ford 302 V8 paired with a
C4 automatic transmission and a Ford 8" rear end featuring a 3.00
gear ratio. It's equipped with air conditioning, power steering,
and power brakes for a comfortable driving experience, while front
disc brakes add confident stopping power. The Motorcraft 4-barrel
carburetor, Flamethrower coil, and aluminum radiator with electric
fan boost efficiency. Styled with black vinyl interior, 15" chrome
Mustang wheels, and a green exterior with matching vinyl top, this
Cougar is a clean, vintage cruiser.
Dan Gurney, an iconic American racer and team owner, played a
pivotal role in introducing the Mercury Cougar to the world of
motorsports during the late 1960s. In 1967, Ford's Mercury division
enlisted Gurney's All American Racers (AAR) team to campaign the
new Cougar in the SCCA Trans-American Championship. Partnering with
fellow driver Parnelli Jones, Gurney helped establish the Cougar as
a competitive force against the dominant Ford Mustangs and
Chevrolet Camaros. Though the Cougars only raced for one full
season in Trans-Am, Gurney's involvement lent credibility and
excitement to Mercury's performance image, cementing the Cougar's
place in American racing history.
