*1972 Porsche 911 Targa RS Tribute*Of the many unique
characteristics on display with the air-cooled Porsche 911, one of
the most interesting is the interchangeability of parts. Although
the overall design saw significant evolution over the 30+ years it
was air cooled, many of the parts - including body panels- could be
swapped between early and late production vehicles with little
additional work required. Although these days, that is most
frequently seen with backdating later 911s to look like earlier
cars, for many years, people went the other way, updating older
911s to look like the newest model. That is the case with this 1972
911 Targa which has been upgraded to 1985 3.2 Carrera
specification, with some special RS touches around the car.Although
this car started life as a "longhood" 911 Targa, the builder had
their own vision for something truly unique both visually and
mechanically, and they saw that dream through, creating a great
looking and thrilling driver's car in the process. Changes to the
bodywork of the car include 3.2 Carrera bodywork and flares, paired
with MA Shaw front and rear bumpers and an MA Shaw rear ducktail
spoiler. The pieces combined make for a remarkably cohesive melding
of 964, 3.2 Carrera and 2.7 RS and a set of 17-inch RSR-finish Rota
Foxes complete the look. The car was completely refinished in a
deep burgundy red by Eurotech and then ceramic coated by Midnight
Tinting. The interior is equally as modified with a pair of Corbeau
bucket seats in Alcantara fitted in front and a rear harness bar
with additional chassis stiffening turning the rear seats into more
of a luggage shelf than a place to sit. Keen eyed Porsche
enthusiasts will notice that the car's dashboard has been swapped
with one from a 1985 Carrera including the gauges, which are framed
by a Momo 3-spoke steering wheel.Under the rear decklid is where
things get even more interesting with this build. What started as a
Euro-spec high compression 3.2-liter flat-6 from a 1985 Carrera,
was rebuilt by Redmond European to include forged pistons, hotter
cams, headwork and a unique X-Factory electronic fuel injection
system with individual throttle bodies. Although under the hood
doesn't look all that aftermarket, you begin to realize that this
is a truly special build when you notice the carbon fiber air
cleaner covers and machined throttle body housings. A recent
leakdown test shows just 2.5% variation across cylinders meaning
this is quite a healthy engine with lots of life left in it. Power
is sent to the rear wheels via a 915 transaxle which was recently
partially rebuilt and resealed once again by Redmond European. Of
course, the suspension has also been addressed using
highly-regarded Elephant Racing parts including poly bronze
trailing arm bushings and spring plates, along with Tarett Racing
adjustable sway bars and Bilstein sport shocks which were installed
by Cantrell Motorsport who also corner balanced the car in the
process. A Weltmeister strut brace was also fitted to add stiffness
to the overall chassis. The result of all this work is a real one of
a kind car that was built using high quality parts and by marque
specialists to ensure everything was just right. As it sits, the
car is a blast to drive with sharp throttle response and a direct,
tossable chassis, which can be enjoyed with the top off and the
wind in your hair. It can be hard to truly stand out in the classic
911 world but this car is really one of a kind.*Key Features* *
