In 1967, General Motors introduced a new version of its popular C/K
pickup trucks which set new standards for comfort and versatility
in this hotly contested market. Shared by Chevrolet and GMC, the
"Action Line" trucks had handsome and modern slab-sided styling
that is still regarded as one of the best-looking pickup truck
lines of all time. More refined than any GM truck before, the
Action Line encompassed a huge range of models including -ton,
-ton and 1-ton pickup trucks (as well as a separate medium duty
line), the Blazer/Jimmy sport utility, and the Suburban/Carryall
people-mover, all available with a dizzying array of options,
engines, chassis configurations, and trim packages. These highly
influential trucks were wildly popular in their day and are
considered a must-have for any truck collector - often appearing
alongside more exotic machinery in some world-class
collections.
Between Chevrolet and GMC, the latter tended to be the tradesman's
choice, and as such, many GMCs got worked into oblivion.
Thankfully, many have been saved by restorers, but original,
unrestored examples are extremely thin on the ground. This
extraordinary 1971 GMC 2500 pickup is notable not only for
surviving over 50 years in unrestored condition, but also for
having covered just 1,348 miles in that time - believed to an
accurate figure backed by a copy of a previous Colorado title.
Presented in a very attractive color scheme of Medium Bronze with a
white roof and interior, this well-equipped truck retains the
original SPID label in the glovebox, showing numerous options
including belt moldings, tool stowage box, chrome front bumper,
heavy-duty rear springs, AM radio, heavy duty radiator, auxiliary
gauge set, 4-speed manual transmission, and the "Invader" 350 cubic
inch V8 - rated at 250hp and 350lb-ft of torque. All GMC pickups
for '71 were usefully equipped with disc brakes on the front
axle.
Appropriately for a truck with such low mileage, it is in superb
condition, displaying a light and appealing patina from age. The
inside of the bed looks as if it's hardly carried a piece of cargo
in its life. Many of the original assembly markings, labels and
decals remain intact, and it rides on original split rims with
proper Firestone tires and dog dish hub caps.
Even after 54 years, this 1971 GMC truck looks remarkably fresh,
having lost none of its appeal, and presenting a rare opportunity
for any collector to acquire an extraordinarily well-preserved
example of GM's definitive classic pickup. Beyond that, all that's
needed is a properly weathered hat and your faithful four-legged
sidekick to ride alongside.
Offers welcome and trades considered.
