Before the serious muscle car era started, there were larger, less
potent cars that roamed the streets. These cars had plenty of class
and character-and maybe none more so than the 1957 Chevrolet Bel
Air 2-Door Hardtop. Here is one such example with bulky chrome
bumpers, big whitewall tires, gold badges and trim, and, of course,
the famous tailfins on the rear quarters. This car was built to
cruise, pack passengers in with ease, and fill the trunk with cargo
or groceries. Originally from Alabama, most of the body on this '57
is solid and believed to be original.
The interior of this vehicle is flashy and stylish. The red
upholstery pairs beautifully with the exterior color and gives off
a true old-school vibe. The front and rear bench seats are
original, as are the door panels, which still present well. The
headliner, carpet, and dashboard are in good condition, while the
steering wheel and gauge cluster show some age but remain
attractive and functional. All of the buttons, knobs, climate
controls, and the radio are in their original places. Overall, this
is a well-preserved vintage interior that should provide plenty of
comfort for both driver and passengers.
The engine bay is clean and straightforward. Power comes from a 283
cubic-inch engine painted Chevy Orange, topped with original-style
Chevrolet valve covers. A Brawler 4-barrel carburetor sits on an
Edelbrock EPS intake for some added performance. Backing the engine
is a 3-speed manual transmission (original three-on-the-tree),
sending power to a Chevrolet factory rear end. The suspension
features front coil springs with shocks and rear leaf springs with
shocks. Coker whitewall tires are mounted on 14-inch wheels with
original-style aluminum hubcaps. The brake system is simple, with
manual drums front and rear, while the exhaust runs through
stock-style manifolds and aftermarket mufflers for a little extra
tone.
