"With these new models, Chevrolet, the leader, bid for first place
again in 1941. Chevrolet, first in sales in nine of the last ten
years, presents for 1941 these greatest of all Chevrolets, designed
to be first again, styled to be first again, engineered to be first
again, built to be first again. For 1941, it seeks to maintain that
leadership with motor cars designed to out value by far all
previous Chevrolets and low priced automobiles." Great news from
the sale brochure, unless you recently purchased a 1940 model.
For consignment, a 1941 Chevrolet Special Deluxe 4 door sedan with
a title verified 86,667 actual miles. This car has always been
garaged, and our consignor's family is the second owner of the car
and the car will come with the bill of sale from the first owner,
original documentation, and service records.
Exterior
In 1941, Chevrolet touted the option of two tone coverage available
on the Special Deluxe, but this one retains that singular palette
of two stage Ridge Green Metallic in near flawless coverage. As the
war started, extra trim on the car was curtailed, but in '41 it
shines bright including the spectacular grille, the polished hood
vents, the freight train hood ornament, side trim that takes in the
door handles, and of course, the rather ornate chrome bumpers. The
cabin is tall and window are delineated by substantial pillars, but
the greenhouse is still ample, and the rear window is perfectly
designed with the sloping rear section and modest tail lights.
16-inch wheels with white wall tired look ideal for the car and the
hubcaps contain red highlights that match with that on the side
trim. There's a scratch on a lower edge and that's the only
imperfection we find on this green stunner.
Interior
Tan cloth mixes with ivory handles hardware and accenting along
with brown features and wood trim on the doors to create artful and
handsome door panels and all four are in wonderful shape. Striped
cloth adorns the bench seat with very nice coverage that is
mirrored on the rear bench which has the added benefit of side
armrests and a robe cord up front. The tan steering wheel is a work
of art and leads to the dash that would easily lend itself to a
coffee table book of photographed fine art. The marbled top
cascades down to the tan, brown, and polished metal housing for
gauges, including the speedometer offset from the steering column.
The center grille is spectacular and is bookended by a clock on the
right side over an AM radio and switchgear on the lower dash. A tan
rubber mat covers the floor and the floor of the spotless trunk,
and the tan headliner is in perfect condition.
Drivetrain
Clean and classic, under the hood we find a 216.5ci inline 6
cylinder, rated at 90 horsepower and fueled by a 1-barrel
carburetor. It's backed by a 3-speed manual that sends power to the
rear axle with 4.11 gears.
Undercarriage
Clean and undercoated, this fantastic underside is a sight to
behold and a clinic in early American simplicity in a nutshell. The
single exhaust flows through a stock style muffler, drum brakes are
on all four wheels, and the suspension is made up of coil springs
in front and leaf springs in the rear. There's some residual oil on
the pan but the underside is about as clean as you're going to find
on a '41, or any year for that matter.
Drive-Ability
An absolute time capsule, this one will take you back with all the
finery of a new car, and one that is knocking on the door of 100
years. The six cylinder runs smoothly, the car tracks straight, and
the interior is a mighty nice place to be. What a fantastic cocoon
for a family to travel in. Our radio is not working but all other
functions operate as they should on this well kept car. While
Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at
the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions
will be working at the time of your purchase.
This car really lives up to the language of the 1941 brochure and
we might call this one a bargain find here at the mall. Even if you
started with a decent donor car, you could not build it for this
price. We're talking museum quality and collector grade condition.
Do not let this one get away!
