The 1967-72 Chevrolet C/K is one of the most popular, reliable, and
easiest to drive classic pickups you can find. This particular
generation marks the turning point when Chevy realized it could
offer truck buyers modern conveniences and comfort options in the
same way it did sedan shoppers, a stunningly simple connection to
make in retrospect, but one that blew the market wide open during a
time when primary rival Ford steadfastly refusing to build anything
other than the most utilitarian models for work use.
For consignment, a 1969 Chevrolet C10 long bed pickup truck with a
title verified 11,577 actual miles. Despite its somewhat pedestrian
looks, this baby was built and was dyno tested at 294 horsepower.
Oh sure, the lowered stance, side exit exhaust, and racing stripes
might be a bit more than pedestrian, but from a distance, it
doesn't look much different from your grandfather's hay hauler.
Exterior
Two stage Medium Blue Metallic shines on the truck, bisected on the
side by trim that runs the midline and a wider band that hovers
over the rocker panel and each run end to end with the precision of
a pair of Blue Angels. A stone like finish is given to the gray
painted stripes that hug the cowled hood and that design is
repeated on the depression line of the tailgate. While we're back
here, we note a roll pan in place of a bumper and a smooth, black
and glossy tonneau cover, all helping streamline this precursor to
the square body generation. This slick truck hunkers down over
15-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels with 275/60R15 tires squaring things
up with letters out boldness. Cut into each rear quarter panel are
coves for exhaust tips so subtle you might almost miss it, until we
fire it up, of course. The bed itself is rhino coated and the
exterior is in overall excellent condition with no major
imperfections in the paint or trim.
Interior
Blue door cards are augmented by a black carpeted lower and armrest
over color keyed paint and both present in nice shape. Tall bucket
seats, clearly not from 1969, flank a center console with
cupholders, another modern addition. These are sporty black leather
seats and are in excellent condition and the driver is presented
with a highly ergonomic Evoluzione steering wheel that frames an
updated instrument cluster with a series of bold, white faced
Classic Instruments Velocity gauges in spotless shape. In the
stamped metal center stack, we have an AM/FM/CD radio and A/C
levers in a vintage panel. Boxed on the floor is the B&M
shifter next to the Sniper screen over clean black carpet. The
headliner glistens with the same sheen of the exterior paint.
Drivetrain
Gobs of chrome, polished surfaces, anodized blue valve covers, and
red accents create a flashy engine bay housing the consignor stated
383ci with Edelbrock Performer RPM heads, a Lunati hydraulic roller
cam, and fuel injection via a Holley Sniper EFI system. The
transmission is a 4-speed automatic 700R4 built by Mad Dog
Transmissions which routes a dyno'd 294 horsepower to the 12 bolt
3.73 geared rear axle with Positraction.
Undercarriage
She's spotless underneath with minimal surface rust and no errant
fluids. The dual exhaust runs from headers and through a pair of
FlowMaster mufflers and then goes east and west to exit out the
sides. Power brakes are onboard as front disc and rear drum. CPP
suspension included coil springs up front with drop spindles, and a
3 link with coil springs in back with 2" drop rear control arms. A
chrome rear differential cover and transmission pan are nice bits
of bling underneath.
Drive-Ability
Thanks to EFI, the truck starts without hesitation and sounds good
doing it. We roll this low ride onto the test loop to find good
acceleration, straight tracking, and handling that's better than
your average long bed. With the "throttle" wide open, the engine
bogs and runs rough. In addition, our checklist also notes that the
A/C, tachometer, and radio do not work, although the radio does
turn on it produces no sound. Beyond those things, all functions
operate as they should and we roll this blue beauty back to the
mall. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were
working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these
functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
This is one for show and go and if you must, for hauling as well.
C10's are scorching hot in the collector market right now and this
one checks all the boxes for a fantastic show truck that warrants
opening the hood at shows and maybe even getting some floor mirrors
for the underside, it's that clean.
