The original K5 Blazer, Chevrolet's own recreational off-roader,
has long been a canvas on which builders and enthusiasts can craft
their most extravagant automotive ideas. Its simple yet timeless
design and rugged construction lends itself to a wide range of
modifications and rich aftermarket support provides endless
possibilities for customization.
This 1972 Chevrolet K5 Blazer features a plethora of custom details
that make it unique among Blazer builds. Originally a six-cylinder,
rear-wheel drive example, it was acquired in an original state by
the build's owner in 2005 and sent to Benchmark Fab & Finish in
Corvallis, Oregon for its extensive transformation. Most notably,
the Blazer sports a removable, shortened and non-folding fabric
soft top that can be stored neatly in the now-carpeted rear cargo
area underneath a new aluminum tonneau cover. The Blazer is
finished in metallic red, which continues onto the paint-matched
15-inch Rally wheels with Cragar spinner caps. The front end has
been backdated to resemble a 1968 C/K-series truck, and the side
markers are frenched to make them flush with the body. Inside, a
gray-upholstered dashboard and power-adjustable bucket seats
complement the exterior paint-matched metals. The cockpit also
sports a Lecarra steering wheel, retro-inspired stereo, and
door-mounted Pioneer Premier speakers. Under the hood rests a
Chevrolet 396 cubic-inch V8 upgraded with a Holley carburetor and
aluminum Edelbrock intake manifold, connected to the Blazer's
standard three-speed Turbo 350 automatic transmission. Its
suspension has been lowered thanks to relocated front shocks, drop
spindles, and a notched rear frame. Bookending the truck's
extensive list of upgrades are a new front sway bar, power-assisted
front brakes, and a dual exhaust system with Magnaflow
mufflers.
The Blazer received a service in 2024 where its Holley carburetor
was rebuilt, and its battery and fluids were replaced. It was sold
the following month to its current owner, and is now offered with
46,213 miles, although the odometer is believed to have been reset
during the restoration.
This thoughtfully crafted and wholly transformed Chevrolet K5
Blazer blends vintage styling with modern usability, highlighted by
its unique stowable top, extensive mechanical and cosmetic
upgrades, and potent V8 power. It's a distinctive take on a classic
platform-equally suited for cruising the boulevard or stealing the
show.
