Cruisin Classics is pleased to present to you this 1963 Ford
Galaxie 500XL. This awesome boulevard cruiser comes to us dressed
as it was originally produced, with Corinthian White exterior, Red
interior, a 352 V-8, a 3-speed Cruise-O-Matic transmission, and a
dealer-installed under-dash A/C unit that cranks out cold air. The
white paint is a respray in the original color, and it's in good
driver condition with some chips and touch-ups from having been
driven. Chrome and brightwork abound on this top-tier 500XL model,
and it is largely in driver condition as well. Most still shines
well, but there are some areas of fading, some small dings, and
some scratches. Minimal imperfections aside, this Ford has a ton of
"eyeball," and it looks fantastic in the sunlight. Classy bright
elements decorate the front end with fender-top ornaments, FORD
lettering on the hood lip, dual side-by-side headlights set in an
ornate grille, a gleaming chrome bumper, and a cool Ford crest hood
opener at the center. Moving around to the side of this 2-door
hardtop, you'll see dual chrome side mirrors, body and rocker
molding, bright windshield and window trim, and a bright drip rail.
Typical of Ford design in this time period, the door handles are
integrated into the body side molding - a great look. Both fenders
wear "Galaxie 500 XL" badging that looks original. The rear pillars
are accented with Galaxie star logo badges and 4" trim pieces where
the pillar meets the body. Further accenting the side view are wire
wheel covers with knock-off centers & Ford crests - all wrapped in
Hankook Optimo H724 white-wall tires. This Galaxie does come with a
set of fender skirts in the trunk, but they would need to be
repainted to match the quality of paint on the car. Around back,
the star of the show is the 10" round rocket-thruster style
taillights that give the car a 60's space-age look. Between the
taillights is a decorative panel that matches the front grille and
offers a gas fill door at the center behind a "500 XL" badge.
Further repeating the front-end qualities are another chrome bumper
and "GALAXIE" lettering across the lip of the trunk. A quick peek
underneath reveals a newer gas tank.
Lift the hood to find a very clean and bone-stock looking engine
bay. At the heart is a 352ci Ford V-8 wearing Ford Blue paint. It's
topped off with a stock intake, blue valve covers with Ford logos,
a 2-barrel carburetor, and a blue air cleaner with "352 cubic inch"
decal. Also present are a newer-looking radiator and shroud, power
steering, and a working A/C system. The V-8 is mated to a 3-speed
Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission that sends power to a Ford
rear end with 3.0:1 gears. Stopping power comes from power 4-wheel
drum brakes with a single reservoir. Cast exhaust manifolds lead
back to a single exhaust.
Opening the door pops on the courtesy lights on both the ceiling
and the doors. The door panels are an elaborate mix of red carpet,
red vinyl, and bright trim with an armrest and cranks for both
windows. Wide Ford sill-plates lead to red hook & loop carpet that
welcomes you inside for a comfortable seat. The red vinyl front
bucket seats are original in style and feature bright side trim. It
appears to us that the seats were re-covered and re-padded at some
point, and they are still in great condition with no real signs of
wear. The rear bench seat is in similarly good condition, and the
rear side panels match the doors perfectly. Splitting the front
buckets is a red center console with chrome touches that offers a
storage box and houses the shifter for the automatic transmission.
Ahead of the driver is a red OEM steering wheel with a working "XL"
horn ring. The wheel frames a 120 mph speedometer that's flanked by
gas and temperature gauges in round pods. The odometer reads only
64,454 miles, and the title claims those to be actual miles! The
red vinyl dash pad above is intact, but starting to show a little
age. Beneath is a bright bezel that runs side to side and houses
most of the controls and accessories: lights, vents, working
wipers, lighter, heat & fan, working AM push-button radio, and
analog clock (inop.). To the right is a glovebox with "Galaxie
500XL" badging on the door and an original owner's manual inside.
Mounted under the dash is a dealer-installed "Cust-O-Matic" air
conditioning unit that offers ice-cold A/C with a strong fan on
demand. Bright A-pillars lead up to a tight white vinyl headliner
that leads the eye back to the rear package tray, where you'll find
"Winkie the Cat" (named by the most recent owner). Winkie is a
stuffed white cat whose eyes have been wired up to work as bright
red third brake lights (the cat is easily removable if you desire).
Around the rear in the trunk, you'll find a fitted mat, a full
spare with factory-style jack, a California duster, and the
aforementioned fender skirts.
If you're looking for a cool classic cruiser that offers style and
a whole host of creature comforts without breaking the bank, then
you're going to love this Galaxie 500XL! It is turn-key ready to
hit the road today and take you to cruise-ins, car shows, out for a
