This 1971 Buick Riviera is a beautifully preserved 2 door hardtop
with great options and a fantastic story! Compared to the previous
year, 1971 was a down year for Buick along with parent company
General Motors and even the entire American automotive industry as
a whole. Between labor strikes at GM and an overall down economy,
Buick's production and sales were down. Nonetheless, when Buick
debuted its flagship 1971 Riviera model it had undergone a complete
redesign. Sitting on a brand new lengthened chassis, and a special
chassis that was not shared with any other GM product, the Riviera
sported new 122 inch wheelbase and an overall length topping out at
217.4 inches. Sitting on top of the new chassis was a new-look
body, with changes evident from nearly every angle. The front end
sported a new raked back look that looked both modern and classy.
Down the sides wide-open wheel well openings along with distinctive
body lines further added to the overall elegant look of the new '71
Buick Riviera. The biggest update for the '71 Riviera of course
happened at the tail end of the car, now outfitted with a massive
rear glass window that sloped into a boattail rear end. Under the
hood, the 1971 Rivieras kept in place the massive 455 cubic inch
Buick big blocks producing over 300 horsepower which was especially
tricky given the start of the US government's emissions
regulations. The interiors of the '71 Buick Riviera models were
especially deluxe! The driver's control panel wraps around the
steering wheel giving an aviation-inspired, immersive feel. The
L-shaped shifters were also quite futuristic looking, distinct from
the traditional "horseshoe" style seen on other Buicks and GM
products. Everything from the standard options, to the seats and
door panels and to the dash just had a little extra pizazz the
elevated the 1971 Riviera to one of the most luxurious GM products
of the day and make them marvelous cars to own and enjoy. In total,
only 33,810 Buick Rivieras were produced during the 1971 model year
which represented just 6% of total Buick models. This particular
'71 Riviera comes to us from single family ownership since new
where this cherished Buick was passed down through three
generations and well taken care of throughout. Under the hood on
this '71 Riviera is the numbers matching 455 cubic inch V8 engine
fed by a single 4 barrel carburetor that together were said to have
produced 310 horsepower when new. The matching numbers 455 V8 is
mated to a Turbo-Hydramatic 400 automatic transmission that makes
this luxurious cruiser an easy car for anybody to take for a spin
around the block. Exhaust exits the over 300 horsepower power plant
via a dual exhaust setup that generates a terrific throaty sound
out of the tailpipes. This '71 Buick comes absolutely loaded with
fantastic options! Maneuvering this 4,000+ pound luxury car in and
out of a tight parking spot is a total breeze thanks to it being
equipped with silky smooth power steering. Further aiding with
parking efforts is the driver's side remote adjustable chrome
mirror that helps you see better while parking or even while
changing lanes. Additionally, bringing this Buick Riviera to a
complete stop is also quite easy since it comes with power front
disc brakes. Riding on a set of the optional chrome-plated 5-spoke
sport-style wheels, each paired with whitewall radial tires, this
1971 Riviera has a fantastic look and even better ride. The
exterior of this 1971 Buick has been correctly refinished in
Verdemist Green paint, just how it came off the Flint, Michigan,
assembly line back in 1971. The interior of this 1971 Buick Riviera
is absolutely stunning. The rear bench seat as well as the front
bucket seats are correct wearing black Madrid-grain upholstery. The
matching woodgrain-timmed door panels, black carpeting,
woodgrain-timmed steering wheel, and the woodgrain-trimmed center
console are all in fantastic shape as well and retain a great stock
look! You'll be able to stay cool even on the hottest summer days
since this Riviera comes outfitted with factory sir conditioning.
Furthermore, you can raise and lower all of the power windows with
the simple flick of a switch, another great option for a car of the
era. Instrumentation includes a 120 MPH speedometer and fuel gauge,
along with indicators for engine temperature and oil pressure, and
even an electric clock. You can even listen to all of your favorite
radio stations since this Riviera comes equipped with an AM/FM
radio. Whether you're buying your very first classic car or you're
adding to your existing Buick or GM collection, this 1971 Buick
Riviera would make an excellent choice. Give Ellingson's a call
