"The Super Snake package begins with a stock Mustang Shelby GT500,
which is then sent to the Shelby American factory in Las Vegas. A
supercharger, upgraded suspension, and more powerful brakes are all
fitted to the car to substantially improve all aspects of
performance over the base car. A host of functional and
nonfunctional exterior changes improve the aesthetics of the pony
car by giving it a much more aggressive look and help differentiate
the Mustang Super Snake from the less powerful GT500." MotorTrend,
April 2023
For consignment, a 2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Super Snake coupe
with a title verified 6,173 actual miles. In its first 2,000 miles,
this car existed as a mild mannered GT500 with its piddly 500
horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. Our consignor had enough of
that and shipped the car to Vegas where the warlocks at Shelby
worked their magic and created the Super Snake you see here and
upping the power to 725 horses.
Exterior
Loud and proud in its vibrant coat of Torch Red, this angry
stallion is adorned with matte black stripes, including the wide
one that traverses from the air dam in front all the way to the
rear splitter in back, even taking in the solid roof along the way.
In profile, you don't have to be Colombo to recognize the Super
Snake clues, from the raised hood housing a wide intake, the
special 20-inch Shelby super Snake wheels, the side stripe that
advertises the snake, and the badge itself which surrounds the
smiling serpent with those keywords, Super Snake. There's also now
the rear quarter window scoop that adds width and muscularity to
the C-pillar. Not convinced of its potential yet? There are hood
pins, heat extractor vents, a rear wing, and carbon fiber bits to
help drive the point home. Rock chips pepper the rocker panel
serving as the only exterior imperfections.
Interior
The perforated red door inserts show a touch of looseness on
otherwise spotless black door panels. The front buckets are
Charcoal Black leather with tuck and roll red inserts supported by
mildly swollen side supports and these, along with the rear 2+2,
are in great condition, as you would expect. Red stitching and
Super Snake headrest embroidery kick things up a notch and that
design reappears on the center armrest. An airbag fits in a badged
circle in the center of the steering wheel which is wrapped in
leather and stitched with red. Ahead of you, the straight forward
gauge package with red needles and the SVT acronym accenting the
tachometer, backlit in lavender. The center stack begins with a
dash mounted triple Shelby signature gauge pod over the badge with
another signature and the Super Snake's CSM number, followed by a
Shaker AM/FM/6 CD radio and standard A/C knobs. That red stitching
from the wheel makes its way to the boot of the SVT short throw
shifter in the center console while black carpet below wears
carpeted mats. The charcoal foam backed headliner above is clean
and the trunk contains a carpeted, fitted covering with Super Snake
designation, presenting in spotless condition, like the rest of the
interior. It contains the large Shaker 1000 subwoofer.
Drivetrain
The heart of the beast is the 5.4 liter DOHC Supercharged V8 with
the forced air compliments of a Kenne Bell unit which helps the
motor develop an astounding 725 horsepower. It's mated to a Tremec
T56 6-speed manual transmission which escorts power via a one piece
driveshaft to the Ford 8.8" in back with 3.73 gearing and TracLoc.
It's all clean under the hood, evidence of the car's low
mileage.
Undercarriage
Very clean underneath with minimal surface rust or some rear wheel
components. Power disc brakes occupy front and back and the dual
exhaust consists of a Borla cat back system with an X-pipe,
stainless steel muffles, and big chrome tips that make their
presence known out back. Eibach suspension includes Macpherson
struts in front with a 3 link, coil springs, and a panhard bar in
back.
Drive-Ability
This is not our first rodeo, so we're familiar with the potential
here and we've seen enough YouTube videos to know how to feather
this car onto the test loop. We already know it's fast and
powerful, now we just have to make sure everything works. Indeed,
the low mileage Snake delivers on all fronts, with only a faulty
tire pressure monitor indicating malfunction. All other functional
items on the car operate as they should and we roll this red flyer
back to the mall, enjoying the symphony of exhaust notes all the
way there! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions
were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee
these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
They say what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. Well, not the case
here. This one went to Vegas and ended up back east and now, like
the serpent in the Garden of Eden, tempts potential buyers to take
a bite of this red apple. If owning an ultimate expression of
Mustang power is a sin, and it's the worst thing you do, ask for
forgiveness then stomp the gas pedal and leave the garden in
style!
