Datsun 240Z is a Series I. This example which was restored by Bill
Reagan of Texas in the early 1990s, subsequently receiving a Gold
Medallion award from the National Z-Car Convention as well as being
displayed at the Whitney Museum of Modern Art in New York. The car
was also featured during the induction of former Nissan Motor
Corporation USA president Yutaka Katayama into the Automotive Hall
of Fame in 1998, and was further used as the basis for aFranklin
Mint model wearing the same chassis number. Power is from a
numbers-matching 2.4-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed
manual gearbox, and the car is finished in orange over a black
interior. This 240Z comes with a Franklin Mint model signed by
Katayama, supporting documentation and memorabilia, factory
literature,
The body received a rotisserie restoration whichincluded sheet
metal repair and other work followed by a repaint in factory Orange
(918). Photos taken during the process and showing the current
condition of the finished product.
Series I trim includes hatch-mounted vents, vertical defroster
elements in the rear glass, and specific C-pillar badging. The car
wears 14? steel wheels with Datsun covers and Toyo 300 tires all
around.
Following the restoration work, the car was used as a basis for a
die-cast Franklin Mint model which wears matching chassis number
02545. An example of the model with its hood signed by Yutaka
Katayama is included in the sale along with associated packaging,
correspondence, and other documentation.
The cabin features black vinyl seat upholstery with patterned
inserts and diamond-quilted side panel covers. Photos are provided
to show the condition of the floors beneath the matching carpets. A
stock wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts instrumentation including a
160-mph speedometer and a five-digit odometer displaying just under
33k miles. Total mileage is unknown.
The 2.4-literinline-six was rated at 151 horsepower at 5,600 rpm
and 146 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm when new. Shifting is through
a fully-synchronized four-speed manual gearbox. An engine stamping
is viewable in the gallery, and matches the number listed on the
chassis tag.
The signed photograph above was taken with the car in 1998
duringYutaka Katayama's induction into the Automotive Hall of Fame
in Dearborn, Michigan.
