"Win on Sunday; Sell on Monday" is a motto that the "Big 3"
American automotive manufacturers (Ford, Chrysler and General
Motors) lived by and especially during the horsepower wars of the
1960's. Each manufacturer was trying to develop and produce the
fastest and most powerful automobile competing in various
motorsports including stock car racing, circuit track racing and
drag racing. It is no surprise that each of the manufacturers began
offering factory packages to turn their standard passenger cars
into tarmac stomping machines. When it came to factory produced
drag racing packages of the early 60's, Chevrolet had the Z11
package, Dodge had their Max Wedge Lightweights and Ford had their
FX Lightweights. This stunning 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 is an
excellent recreation and tribute to these iconic factory race cars.
This Ford Galaxie 500 benefits from an older and very extensive
factory lightweight style restoration that still presents very well
today. During the restoration, the Galaxie received period correct
fiberglass body panels including: fiberglass front fenders,
fiberglass teardrop hood, fiberglass inner fenders, fiberglass rear
decklid and fiberglass front and rear bumpers. This Galaxie is
finished in a beautiful Red exterior paint that shines very well
and is in excellent condition throughout. Complimenting the
Galaxie's Red exterior is the factory chrome and stainless trim,
and a set of American Racing Torque Thrust wheels wrapped in
Redline Coker tires in front and Raised white letter Hoosier DOT
cheater slicks in the rear. This Galaxie 500 features a 500XL-style
Black vinyl bucket seat interior that is in very good condition and
benefits from the addition of a floor mounted B&M ratchet
shifter and a column mounted Autometer tachometer. Powering this
great Ford is a well built Super Cobra jet 429 cubic inch big-block
V8 that has been bored and stroked to 514 cubic inches. The 514
cubic inch big-block V8 has been nicely upgraded with: Ford Racing
Super Cobra Jet aluminum heads, mild rise intake manifold, dual
Holley 600cfm carburetors, MSD ignition, and long tube headers
feeding a custom dual exhaust. The very powerful Super Cobra Jet
514 cubic inch V8 is backed by a C6 3-speed automatic transmission
equipped with a reverse manual valve body and power is transferred
to the rear wheels via a Ford 9" rear end equipped with 4.11:1
final drive gears. This drivetrain combination comes together to
produce an intoxicating driving experience that will leave a grin
on your face and your back glued to your seat. This Galaxie 500
lightweight recreation is nicely equipped with front disc brakes,
AM radio, B&M ratchet shifter, column mounted Autometer
tachometer, aftermarket Stewart Warner oil pressure and water
temperature gauges, and variable speed wipers. If you are in the
market for an excellent, turn-key ready muscle car that pays homage
to the factory race cars that used to dominate dragstrips across
the nation and would present very well at your local cruise-in or
car show then you will want to take a very close look at this
gorgeous 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 Lightweight recreation.
