Cool custom short-bed trucks are always in style and make for big
hits at car shows and cruises. This 1957 Chevrolet 3100 Big Back
Window cruiser will turn heads no matter what event it shows up to.
The crisp white paint job and pinstriping in the front and rear go
perfectly with the black Detroit Steel wheels, painted white
bumpers, chrome front grille, LED headlights, and the custom
frenched rear taillights tucked into the rear fenders. The door
handles are shaved along with the tailgate handle. The truck bed
looks outstanding, just like the rest of the truck. And just in
case you need to tow something, there is a trailer hitch under the
rear bumper.
The interior carries an original/custom vibe. The red bench seat
sets off the mostly black cabin. The original Chevy gauge cluster
is paired with a Mooneyes tachometer and three AutoMeter gauges:
Fuel, Water Temp, and Oil Pressure. A Holley Sniper Fuel Injection
Control unit sits to the right of the steering wheel, helping the
driver keep a closer eye on engine activity. The door panels are in
good shape, as are the dashboard and custom headliner. Door jambs,
dashboard, and glove box all feature creative pinstriping designs.
The custom steering wheel looks sharp, and the shifter lever topped
with a grenade knob adds a unique touch. Altogether, it's a
well-done classic look for the interior.
Under the hood, the pinstriping continues and only enhances the
clean engine bay, which houses the Holley Sniper fuel-injected 350
cubic-inch V8 engine. This is paired with a reliable 700R4 4-speed
automatic transmission that runs back to a later-model 10-bolt rear
axle.
For suspension, the Chevrolet gets a Camaro front subframe
featuring A-arms with coil springs and shocks, while the rear uses
leaf springs with air shocks. Gloss black Detroit Steel 20-inch
wheels with chrome center caps sit at all four corners-wheels are
wrapped in 245/40R20 front tires and 275/35ZR20 rear tires. For
stopping power, the truck features power front disc brakes and rear
drum brakes. And for that great old-school sound, dual exhaust runs
through Cherry Bomb-style resonators.
