"Cadillac has updated its sole remaining front drive car, the
DeVille, the only Cadillac left from the old school of big cars for
white haired guys. The 2006 model has a sportier shape, a new
interior, even a new name. It's now simply a DTS. Not surprisingly,
the DTS now sports Cadillac's revisionist signature grille and a
degree of the current knife edge styling seen on CTS and STS
models." Car and Driver, Sept. 2006
For auction, a 2006 Cadillac DTS 4 door sedan showing 101,661
miles, but the true miles are unknown. This big luxury sedan
presents in good condition and runs and drives.
Exterior
With its facet chiseled design, stately chrome grille, and straight
steel, the car helps perpetuate Cadillac's renowned premium
profile. The exterior paint is the deep end of the pool, here in
Crystal Red Metallic Tintcoat accented by a polished B-pillar,
shoulder line pinstripe, and shiny side molding. Four doors for
easy access are provided and the tall vertical back of this car
with more faceted design for the tail lighting that hints of
vertical lights of yesteryear, and we can see dual twin tailpipes
exhaling just below the integrated bumper and more polished trim
bordering the decklid panel. 17-inch chrome wheels are wrapped in
235/55R17 tires, a big change from the 75 series classic Cadillacs
would sport.
Interior
Nicely molded with smooth materials, textured plastic, and
simulated burlwood accents adorn the door panels which contain only
the necessary buttons and toggles to make life just a bit easier on
the road, including some seat controls. Passengers are treated to
high back black leather bucket seats with the fronts showing some
light compression and patina creasing, and the rear bench showing a
touch of wear on the front edge. A center console is positioned
between the seats, dressed in burlwood and housing the shifter.
Thumb controls are numerous on the sporty steering wheel which
leads to a simple instrument cluster augmented by a small digital
readout below. The center stack is also framed in burlwood and
contains an analog clock, the climate control panel, and an AM/FM
multi disc CD player. Textured plastic dominates the passenger side
along with a band of the dark grained wood, and black carpet covers
the floor and the interior is in overall very nice condition.
Drivetrain
Under the hood you'll find the 4.6 liter Northstar V8, fuel
injected and rated at 275 horsepower. The front wheels are powered
via the 4T80E 4-speed automatic that routes the power through 3.11
gears.
Undercarriage
The car is equipped with four wheel power disc brakes, dual exhaust
through original equipment, and suspension that is composed of
Macpherson struts in front and a multi-link with coil springs in
back.
Drive-Ability
This DTS starts, runs, and drives well. We note the service tire
monitor system light is on and the service Stabilitrak light is on
during our short drive. The only way into the trunk is by accessing
it in the back seat and pulling the release.
