The ultimate naturally aspirated Porsche 911, Reimagined by
Singer
Singer Vehicle Design, based in Torrance, California, is synonymous
with 911-based recommissions. Starting with their "Classic"
reimagining, their order books began to overflow from the influx of
demand. But while many enjoyed their Singer Classic vehicles, many
others asked, "What's next?" Surely the design outfit in SoCal had
something cooking, perhaps something more powerful, quicker, or
maybe lighter? Rumors began circulating of a partnership with
Singer Vehicle Design and Williams Advanced Engineering, known for
their F1 relationship. In late 2017, a public reveal was made: the
Singer DLS.
This Singer DLS was specified with the following options:

About the Singer DLS
The DLS, Dynamics & Lightweighting Study, is the culmination of
efforts between Singer and Williams Advanced Engineering. With the
goal of producing the most advanced and stunning 911-based
recommission, Singer sought out the engineering expertise of the
UK-based engineering firm. The DLS had very important guidelines,
both being an exceptional vehicle to drive but also to push the
limits technologically while maintaining the Porsche lineage. The
DLS was decided to be built in the U.K., due to the development
work performed by Williams Advanced Engineering and testing
required. With a limited production of 75 examples worldwide, it is
one of the rarest Singers ever made.
The centerpiece of the DLS is the all-new 4.0L air-cooled flat six
engine producing 500 horsepower, with a world-first 4-valves per
cylinder design for an air-cooled engine. Famous engine designer
Hanz Metzger was consulted with the design of this new engine, with
Williams Advanced Engineering leading the design process of the
engine. Exceptional engineering was performed in order to
accommodate the greatly-increased power of the new engine, with
dual oil cooling circuits running to the front of the vehicle. A
computational fluid dynamics (CFD)-optimized engine fan was
designed for the maximum amount of air cooling the engine, with
titanium internals helping achieve the 9,000rpm redline. Quick to
rev, the lightweight engine sounds unlike anything you've heard
before.
The entire package of the DLS received the same attention to detail
that you'd expect from a Singer vehicle. The entire body of the car
is bespoke carbon fiber, modeled and refined in CFD to reduce lift
with aerodynamics consulted with Norbert Singer, the creator of the
Porsche 956. Suspension was engineered by Williams, with Brembo
supplying the brake rotors and carbon ceramic brake discs. BBS
created bespoke magnesium center-lock wheels that channel the
original Fuchs spirit but with modern Michelin tires. Hewland made
a custom lightweight magnesium 6-speed manual transmission, routing
power to only the rear wheels. The exhaust is titanium, producing a
bone-chilling exhaust note at 9,000rpm. The interior is a level
above any other Singer vehicle. Purposely built, carbon fiber
components are used extensively, including bespoke Recaro carbon
bucket seats with any material a client could dream of, along with
an exposed gear-shift linkage for the passenger to see while
driving. The instrumentation is Singer's way of showing jewelry
while driving, the 11k tachometer front and center to remind you
that the car is turned up to 11.
When completed the Singer DLS examples, with their exotic use of
carbon fiber, titanium, and magnesium, resulted in a vehicle with a
curb weight of less than 2,200lbs. With 500 horsepower on tap,
routed through its 6-speed manual transmission, the resulting
driving experience is a raw but unmistakable Singer experience.
Now available at Canepa, this one-of-one Singer DLS is ready to be
driven. With its signature 500 horsepower 4.0L flat six, exquisite
interior, Sport Classic Grey paint, and only 1,337 miles since
completion, Singer's labor of love is one to be enjoyed by turning
it up to 11.
