The 1966 Chevrolet Corvette occupies a special place in the history
of American sports cars. By the mid-1960s, the Corvette had already
established itself as Chevrolet's flagship performance vehicle, but
the 1966 model year brought a series of refinements that further
solidified its reputation as both a high-performance machine and a
stylish icon of the era. From a design standpoint, the car retained
its distinctive long-hood, short-deck proportions, hidden
headlights, and sleek fiberglass bodywork, but subtle updates gave
it a cleaner and slightly more muscular appearance. The three
vertical strakes on the side fender vents of the 1965 model were
replaced with a simpler single vent design, creating a more
streamlined look. The grille was revised with a blacked-out finish,
and backup lights were now standard equipment, integrated neatly
into the tail panel. These small changes gave the 1966 model a
unique identity while maintaining the timeless Sting Ray aesthetic.
Inside, the Corvette offered a driver-focused cockpit with bucket
seats, a full array of gauges, and options such as air
conditioning, power steering, and power brakes, which made the car
more comfortable for everyday use. While still a pure performance
machine, the 1966 Corvette could be equipped to suit a wide range
of buyers, from weekend racers to those who wanted a stylish and
capable grand tourer.
At Motor City Classic Cars, we are always in search of C2 Corvette
Coupes that stand out amongst their peers, and this '66 does
exactly that. As you approach this Corvette, you are immediately
struck by its exterior color. Painted in its factory-correct
Mosport Green, a one-year only color that is rarely found today,
you start to realize this is an uncommon Corvette. Open the door to
find corresponding green interior, a Powerglide automatic
transmission and Vintage A/C and you realize this is the ideal
build for cuising and showing. All around the exterior of this car,
the paint, brightwork show the quality behind the car's restoration
and care that it has been given during its life. Powered by a
327ci/300hp V8 tied to a Powerglide automatic transmission and
power steering, this Vette is the perfect cruiser. On the interior,
the correpsonding green interior is in fantastic condition with
newer seat covers and new carpeting throughout. On the outside,
this car is riding in brand-new goldline tires which pop against
the car's exterior.
When considering the purchase of a C2 Coupe, we at Motor City
Classic Cars believe that, in addition to restoration quality,
color and build is everything. Standing out amongst the crowd is a
must and this '66 will do just that.
