Here is a pretty rare 1966 Ford Bronco Half-Cab 4x4 that has been
restored to its original form. 1966 was the first year for the
Bronco, and these Half-Cab models were only built for part of the
first-gen production run. They account for only about 8 percent of
the Broncos built that year. This one is painted Rangoon Red and
the bumpers, front grille, hubcaps, and roll bar are all correct
for this year's Half-Cab. The restoration was done properly with
great attention to detail. Out back, there's a trail hitch for
towing and a direct-replacement spare tire mounted on a swing-out
carrier, allowing access to the tailgate.
The interior has been restored to stock style and looks fantastic.
It's plain and simple, which is ideal if you don't care for a lot
of power options and electronics-that's just more stuff to go
wrong. The seats are in great shape, and the door panels and roof
are steel, painted to match the exterior and interior. The carpets
are clean and protected by rubber mats. The steering wheel,
dashboard, speedometer, knobs, and controls are all in their
correct original places. Shifting is controlled by a column
shifter-this Bronco is an original three-on-the-tree vehicle. On
the floor, you'll find the lever for engaging the 4x4.
Under the hood, everything looks stock and clean. Power comes from
a 170 cubic-inch Inline-6 engine with a 1-barrel carburetor. While
not particularly fast, it works well with the 4x4 system. The
engine is paired with a 3-speed manual transmission, a front Dana
30 axle, and a rear 9-inch solid axle. The front suspension
features coil springs with shocks, while the rear uses leaf springs
with shocks. It rides on 15-inch rims with Ford hubcaps wrapped in
BFG All-Terrain 30X9.50R15 tires. Drum brakes at all four corners
bring it to a stop. Exhaust flows through a stock-style manifold, a
single pipe, and a factory-style replacement muffler.
