For Sale: 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS in MADISONVILLE, Texas

Vehicle Description

  • Vehicle Overview

This 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS retains its complete original numbers-matching drivetrain, including the 340 horsepower 409 cubic-inch V8 and Muncie four-speed manual transmission. Recently acquired from a private collection, the car is finished in its factory Satin Silver Poly (Paint Code 940) over a Black Super Sport interior (Trim Code 815).

The original drivetrain remains intact while several mechanical upgrades have been made to improve reliability and drivability. These include Vintage Airpower steering, a four-wheel power disc brake conversion, an Edelbrock carburetor, and an Edelbrock high-flow water pump. None of these upgrades change the character of the car, but they make it considerably more enjoyable to drive in modern traffic.

The 409 remains one of Chevrolet's most recognizable performance engines, producing strong low-end torque and a driving experience that made these full-size Super Sports popular both on the street and at the drag strip. Paired with its original Muncie four-speed transmission, this Impala retains the performance combination that buyers sought when these cars were new.

The car has recently undergone a mechanical inspection and service, with receipts documenting the work performed. It is ready to be driven and enjoyed while retaining the originality that makes factory 409 four-speed Impalas increasingly difficult to find.

  • Model History

The 1964 model year was the final year of Chevrolet's third-generation Impala and the last before the body was completely redesigned for 1965. By then, the Super Sport had established itself as Chevrolet's performance flagship, combining full-size comfort with increasingly powerful engine options.

The 340 horsepower 409 cubic-inch V8 was one of the most popular performance engines available in 1964. Equipped with a single four-barrel carburetor and backed by the Muncie four-speed manual transmission, it offered strong performance and durability while remaining well suited for street driving.

Today, factory Super Sports retaining their complete original numbers-matching drivetrain are becoming increasingly difficult to find. Cars that have been maintained rather than extensively modified provide an opportunity to experience the performance and character that made the 409-powered Impala one of Chevrolet's most respected full-size performance cars.
