Vehicle Overview
This 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS retains its complete original numbers-matching drivetrain, including the 340 horsepower 409 cubic-inch V8 and Muncie four-speed manual transmission. Recently acquired from a private collection, the car is finished in its factory Satin Silver Poly (Paint Code 940) over a Black Super Sport interior (Trim Code 815).
The original drivetrain remains intact while several mechanical upgrades have been made to improve reliability and drivability. These include Vintage Air, power steering, a four-wheel power disc brake conversion, an Edelbrock carburetor, and an Edelbrock high-flow water pump. None of these upgrades change the character of the car, but they make it considerably more enjoyable to drive in modern traffic.
The 409 remains one of Chevrolet's most recognizable performance engines, producing strong low-end torque and a driving experience that made these full-size Super Sports popular both on the street and at the drag strip. Paired with its original Muncie four-speed transmission, this Impala retains the performance combination that buyers sought when these cars were new.
