There is a very short list of trucks that have a long, dedicated
following of collectors and enthusiasts. One of those off-road
warriors we have for you today is this 1991 Land Rover Defender,
which has a mere 126,861 believed actual miles on its odometer.
Fully repainted in a rough yet regal-looking Keswick Green,
complemented by a black top, this Defender sports its (believed)
original body panels, which look great partially because of the
wing top hood protector and vents, with matching side skirt
trim.
Inside, we find a utilitarian yet comfortable black vinyl interior
featuring a pair of bucket seats covered with custom cloth covers
separated by a center console that offers an armrest, storage, and
dual cupholders. A power-assisted right-hand-drive steering wheel
sits just ahead of a large 110 mph speedometer and smaller fuel,
volt, and temperature gauges, with a plethora of warning lights
filling up the rest of the dashboard. A sunroof above provides
plenty of natural light, while soundtracks are handled by an
upgraded Kenwood AM/FM/CD/AUX head unit that also offers Bluetooth
connectivity. In back, the optional side-mounted bench seating
allows for a group outing, and a wealth of cargo space that is
easily accessed by the massive rear door.
Under the hood, we are treated to a believed original 2.5-liter 200
Tdi Turbo Diesel inline-four-cylinder engine. From the factory,
this motor made approximately 107 horsepower at 3,900 rpm and 188
pound-feet of torque at a low 1,800 rpm. That turbocharged power is
routed through a believed original, tried-and-true five-speed
manual transmission and dual-range transfer case before being sent
out to either the rear or all four corners, where 16-inch
powder-coated Land Rover wheels wait, shod in Cooper Discoverer
tires measuring 285/75R-16.
