"Following the Mustang's super successful launch in 1964, Ford went
on to sell the model in huge numbers throughout 1965 and 1966.
Although tweaks were constantly being made to the pony car since
its inception, 1967 was the first real redesign, and many notable
differences were introduced for the first time. Cosmetically, the
biggest changes were a larger front grille, twin side scoops, (more
pronounced than the previous design), and a deep concave rear
panel. It's features like these that are the easiest ways to
distinguish 1967 cars from the earlier models." Hotcars.com
For consignment, a 1967 Ford Mustang convertible showing 6,875
miles, but the true miles are unknown. Owned by our consignor since
2010 with a restoration effort started in 2016 and a transmission
rebuild within the past year. Looking for a classic Mustang
convertible? Look no further as this is a fine example you can
drive with nothing over your head to contain the miles of
smiles.
Exterior
If we were British, we would say this is a smashing color for the
car, Acapulco Blue surely named after the color of the sea on this
coastal Mexican city. There, in plain blue view are the field marks
that make this a '67, the twin ornamental side ducts, the sharply
curved latch panel and tail lights, and the more prominent grille
with of course, the running horse in a corral. The headlight coves
now lose the ridges features all the way up to '66 for a smoother
presentation. 14-inch wheels have the proper wheel covers and the
white canvas top contains a plastic window that is clear. The metal
work is very nice including the bumpers, window trim, door handles
and mirrors and the paint is very nice with the only imperfections
noted as a few bubbles down low and one spot of paint run. The
white of the canvas top has taken on some greying which is fairly
typical.
Interior
It's blue on blue for this '67 starting with the two tone door
panels of light blue surround dark blue vinyl inserts and both
doors are in nice shape, lending their colors to the low back
bucket seats in front and rear bench. Tuck and roll inserts give
the seats some style and comfort and both front and rear are in
excellent condition while the rear side walls appear in original
condition and show some patina. So does the steering wheel, but
it's intact without cracks and leads to the dashboard the houses
five gauges in a symmetrical pattern in textured black plastic that
drops down on the left to house the vent levers and continues
cleanly right to cover the glove box. Below it in the center is an
AM/FM radio hovering above the transmission tunnel that carries the
classic Ford T-shifter on the floor. Blue loop carpet blankets the
floor in nice condition and is protected front and rear with some
vintage looking Mustang branded rubber mats, showing some well
earned age. A plaid vinyl mat covers the trunk floor and the spare
tire in back for a clean presentation.
Drivetrain
Under the hood, an original looking 289ci V8 with a 2-barrel
carburetor and a horsepower rating of 200. It's mated to the
rebuilt C4 3-speed automatic transmission that routes power to the
Ford 8" in back with 2.79 gears.
Undercarriage
Clean, driver quality underneath with some typical surface rust and
a touch of oil on the rear differential, along with a former floor
pan repair that's evident and sealed. The pans are dry and the
knuckles are clear and the single exhaust runs through a Raptor
muffler before exiting without fanfare under the back. Drum brakes
are used all around and suspension consists of coil springs in
front and leaf springs in the back.
Drive-Ability
A pump of the gas and a turn of the key is enough to get the 289's
juices flowing and we were off and running around the test loop
where the car performed well with good acceleration, straight
tracking, and braking on demand. We note that the only thing not
working was the heater blower. Not bad for a 58 year old car!
Meanwhile, all other functions operated as expected. While Classic
Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time
of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be
working at the time of your purchase.
Here's one that hasn't been modified and presents in original form,
just as the designers and engineers intended. Based on the millions
sold, they knew what they were doing. We love the Acapulco Blue and
think you'll agree, it's a real head turner. We're proud to
represent this iconic American car.
