If you like to cruise around town and enjoy the weather, this is
the vehicle to do it in. Here you have a 1969 Oldsmobile 98
Convertible that's not made for getting you anywhere fast-it's made
to get you there in class. It drives as smoothly as it looks, and
you won't have any problems getting compliments in this car. The
Pearl White paint with the light blue interior is just pleasing to
the eyes. The front and rear bumpers are well-kept and in good
shape, while the blue cloth convertible top with glass window is
also in great condition. The rear wheel side skirts definitely add
character to the long Oldsmobile, and the solid hubcaps with
whitewall tires finish off that elegant look.
On the inside, it looks like an ocean of blue. The door panels are
solid, along with the front and rear bench seats. The carpet still
fits well, and the door jambs and sills look clean. The original
dashboard continues to hold its own, as does the steering column,
which provides tilt steering and turn signal functions on one side
and gear selection on the other. The dash also houses the heat and
air conditioning controls (the A/C will need servicing to blow cold
again), AM/FM radio, while underneath sits an 8-track player. Power
features include windows, locks, bench seats, and the power
convertible top.
The engine bay is very clean for a motor that remains mostly stock
since 1969. This is a big car, so it needs a big engine-and it gets
one. A 455 cubic-inch V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor sends power to
the TH400 3-speed transmission, which then transfers it to a
12-bolt rear axle to turn the wheels. The front suspension is
straightforward with coil springs, shocks, and a sway bar, while
the rear features coil springs with shocks. Wheel size is 15 inches
all around, wrapped in 225/75R15 tires. Power drum brakes provide
stopping power, and the exhaust system uses mostly stock or stock
replacement components.
