In 1959, four years after the release of the Silver Cloud, Rolls-Royce introduced the Silver Cloud II. Most dramatically, the car was now powered by a new 6.2L V8 in place of the original car's 4.9L Inline-6, noticeably improving acceleration and drivability. Power steering became standard, while power windows and other accruements were newly made available as options. As before, standard and long wheelbase variants were on offer, either with the factory 'Standard Steel' bodywork or as a rolling chassis to be delivered to one of several coachbuilders.

Of those, only 37 were sent to James Young to be fitted with their SCT-100 'Touring Limousine' bodywork - of which only three were configured for left hand drive markets. Known as the 'Baby Phantom' for its similar lines to James Young's PV22 body for the Phantom V, the SCT-100 features large rear pillars for enhanced rear-seat privacy and a sloping rear end distinctive to their designs. Inside, SCT-100s feature additional wood trim and thoughtful touches factory 'standard' cars lacked, making it easy to understand why they are some of the most desirable of the Silver Clouds.

The incredible 1961 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II Long Wheelbase SCT-100 Touring Saloon by James Young featured here is finished in gorgeous Sable Metallic over Masons Black with Red coachlines over an impeccably kept Beige leather interior featuring magnificent Burl Walnut woodwork throughout. Originally special ordered by Alan P.L. Prest Sr. after retiring as a partner of Price Waterhouse & Company for a tour of Europe, chassis LLCC2 was equipped with James Young's SCT-100 bodywork, a bespoke luggage rack, family crests applied to the rear doors, no division window, rear-seat reading lamps, a Motorola radio with a power antenna, and, notably, Rolls-Royce's 'New York' air conditioning.

Upon completion, Mr. Prest and his wife, Naomi, took delivery of LLCC2 on 8 January 1961 in England, whereupon they embarked upon a six-month tour of continental Europe, after which it was shipped after them to New York aboard HMS Assyria. Arriving stateside on 10 June 1961, they brought the car to their estate in Darien, Connecticut. Naturally, LLCC2 received only the best of care under their stewardship and eventually made its way into the world-class collection of renowned Pebble Beach winner, Robert M. Lee, where it remained until our acquisition.

Coach-built Silver Clouds such as LLCC2 offer the best qualities of classic cars: timeless design, exceptional quality, and, of course, enduring value. While any Rolls-Royce of this vintage is perfectly at home on the show circuit, LLCC2’s best use may very well be for grand touring in the same vein as its original owners intended for it in 1961. With this car's status as one of only three built in this configuration, remarkable condition, and unique touches, it is the perfect example to add to any premier collection. I personally believe the investment potential of this rare and iconic motorcar will grow beyond your imagination. Offered to the most astute collector, investor, or enthusiast who desires only the very best an investment price!
