If numbers matching is one of those things you look for in a
vehicle, then this 1981 Chevrolet Corvette falls right into your
category. With 79,293 actual miles, this sports car is a true
survivor. It looks great in its factory color Black, Corvette
aluminum wheels, and with the curves that have made this American's
#1 sports car. With the t-tops off, you won't want to stop
cruising-just pass up your street and keep on going, listening to
the sweet sound of the mufflers purr.
The interior is super sporty, with red and black leather seats and
classic Corvette symbols on the headrests. There are lots of power
options, including power locks, power windows, power mirrors, power
steering, and power brakes. Cold A/C is working and great to have
in those hot summer months. The steering wheel is both tilt- and
telescopic-adjustable. In the center console, there's an Alpine
head unit with AM/FM/Aux and a CD player. Above that is a gauge
cluster holding five different gauges, while to the left, in front
of the driver, are the tachometer and speedometer. The shifter
looks good and a rare sight in this year (we'll get to that later).
The custom door panels look great and match the seats.
Opening up the hood could feel a little odd since most Corvette
hoods open in reverse. A couple of nice Chevy chrome valve covers
present themselves well with a chrome air cleaner. But the real gem
is the 350 cubic-inch engine, numbers-matching, with a Rochester
Quadra-Jet carburetor. A 4-speed manual is used to slam those
gears, making this Corvette a little rarer than others-since only
about 1 out of every 8 Corvettes were built with a stick shift
option in 1981. The front suspension uses A-arms with coil springs
and shocks, while the rear suspension uses leaf springs with
shocks. Aluminum stock-appearing wheels are 15-inch all the way
around, wrapped with BFG Radial T/A 255/60R15 tires. For stopping
power, four-wheel power disc brakes are used, and for exhaust
sound, there is a mostly stock dual exhaust setup with aftermarket
mufflers.
