"The Factory Five GTM?uses an ultra strong space frame and is
joined by a matrix of aluminum subframe panels to complete a true
race car construction. Built on the strong foundation of this tough
chassis is a four corner coilover shock suspension with unequal
length control arms and massive Corvette brakes. The composite body
rests on top of this chassis and is a separate unstressed
assembly." From the company's website.
For consignment, a 2007 Ford GT Factory 5 GTM coupe with just 1,288
miles since its build. This fantastic GT tribute features a mid
mounted 5.7 liter LS1 and you'll want to open the rear hatch to
show it off as it's the show within the show!
Exterior
The dramatic paint scheme is fitting for a dramatic car as an ever
widening black stripe travels over the front and takes in nearly
the entire roof while Burnt Orange Metallic frames the black and
covers the rest of the body. What a body it is with intake ducts
and heat extractor vents all over the place seemingly taking
advantage of every wisp of wind that travels over it. The air that
makes it to the back will push down on the big carbon fiber wing
then mix with exhaust fumes that leave from the high exiting tips
and the diffused air from the baffles down below. Modern headlights
are accompanied by fog lights on the chin and round tail lights sit
nearly flush on the rear fascia. TSW wheels, 19-inch in front and
20-inch in back carry low profile ZR rated tires including rear 25
series in back. There are no external imperfections on this low
mileage GTM, the paint, trim and wheels are fantastic.
Interior
Black door panels are complemented by orange stitching and ProCar
racing seats also feature back cloth and vinyl construction and
five point harnesses. Up front, the uber ergonomic steering wheel
is detachable and fronts a very clean and tidy instrument cluster
with AutoMeter Ultra-lite gauges housed in a carbon fiber trim
plate. The center stack provides two vents, an AM/FM/CD radio, and
billet A/C knobs just above the shifter in the perfect position.
Black carpet and Factory 5 mats are at your feet while uncovered
fiberglass construction makes up your headliner and a backup camera
monitor is on the windshield header in lieu of a rearview mirror as
visibility is limited through the small rear window and
obstructions. The front trunk is part of the functional systems and
includes fans that pull air from hood vents, a number fluid
reservoirs, A/C componentry, and more.
Drivetrain
Black, red, and carbon fiber dress the engine cover and immediately
draw the eyes to the 5.7 liter LS1 V8, which is fuel injected and
rated at an astounding 345 horsepower. The Porsche G50 5-speed
manual transaxle is fully visible but your eyes don't linger there
long as the stainless steel Borla custom exhaust system shines like
a diamond and its travels are short as it crosses the decklid panel
and out to the world. There are no catalytic converters present.
The bay and its custom engine cover are spotless.
Undercarriage
The tubular frame carries coil over suspension front and rear while
disc brakes are equipped at all four wheels. The car is also
equipped with dual gas tanks.
Drive-Ability
About as close to a racecar as you'd imagine, the seats lock you in
but the cabin is no more restrictive than a modern Corvette, which
means it's actually comfortable. The LS1 roars to life as we point
this wedge shaped beauty onto the test loop where of course, the
light weight and big V8 are a match made in heaven, and wide tires
provide all the grip you'll ever ask for. These tires are about 20
years old however, so we're not pushing our luck. Just know that
with some new sticky shoes, the sky's the limit. The only thing
that gets a demerit on our checklist is the heater blower which is
not working. Everything else on this barely driven build operates
as it should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these
functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot
guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your
purchase.
You want a Ford GT but the idea of dropping 300 large just doesn't
settle with the wife. Well, here's a much praised copy from a
company with a stellar reputation by all accounts. According to
their website, they're not building the GTM at the moment and you
can get on a long waiting list for a kit, or purchase this fine low
mileage example that's already built and get started on your
weekend adventures this month!
