This 1946 Kit Manufacturing Company Super Deluxe Teardrop Travel
Trailer (Serial No. S1990) is a rare, fully restored example from
one of the most iconic post-war builders. This teardrop sleeps two,
has a two-burner propane stove, five gallon water tank, and
built-in icebox. Its ideally suited for towing behind a classic
car, making it a perfect companion for vintage rallies, weekend
getaways, and show display. Produced in December 1946 by Kit
Manufacturing in Norwalk, California, it is one of approximately
3,500 trailers built that year, distinguished by its dual entry
Super Deluxe configuration which is two full doors instead of the
standard single entry. Kit Manufacturings early teardrops remain
among the most desirable vintage trailers due to their high build
quality, distinctive design, and connection to post-war ingenuity.
This 1946 Super Deluxe is especially sought after for its twin-door
configuration, lightweight towability, and top-condition
restoration, making it a rare find for collectors and vintage
camping enthusiasts alike. This Super Deluxe underwent a
comprehensive restoration that included full insulation, new
internal plywood panels, and meticulous polishing of the aluminum
shell. The 20 year old restoration preserved its period charm while
ensuring modern usability. The current owner purchased the teardrop
trailer in 2020 and used with their 1939 Chevrolet Master 85 Coupe
for classic car outings. The trailer features a polished aluminum
shell that is in great condition. The aluminum exterior surfaces
present beautifully with a mirror-like finish and no signs of
corrosion or water damage. The body sits on a single axle with
16-inch wheels and tires in excellent condition, complemented by
black fenders and chrome and stainless-steel trim that is in good
condition. A single-wheel tongue jack makes maneuvering easy and
has a two inch ball. This teardrop trailer features a roof luggage
rack for additional storage. All windows feature manual pop-out
operation for ventilation. Inside, the cabin is lined with curved,
wood-finished walls and the internal plywood was replaced during
restoration with new insulation. The cabin includes two
side-mounted lights, fabric curtains, a foam mattress, and a
storage shelf running across the rear wall. The woodwork and
joinery are in great condition with no water damage or heavy wear.
The sleeping area offers comfortable space of4ft by 6ft for two
adults. The rear liftgate reveals a classic exterior kitchenette
lined in aluminum that is in good condition for normal use. The
kitchenette is complete with a two-burner propane stove, ice box,
5-gallon water tank, and a dedicated Pioneer Manufacturing Co
propane bottle. The kitchenette features lighting, storage
cabinetry, and the polished aluminum finish. The trailer is
equipped with a 12-volt electrical system designed to connect
