2003 Chevrolet Corvette 50th Anniversary Convertible
"So the people in charge of planning the Corvette's 50th
Anniversary Special Edition picked a shade of what is currently the
most often selected Corvette color, red. Not just any bright
Porsche Guards Red, mind you, and not the purple red that proved
unexpectedly popular on the 40th anniversary model. No, this new,
one year only Anniversary Red is a lustrous burgundy with Xirallic
aluminum oxide flakes floating under a special tinted clear coat
and complemented by special Shale interior trim with anniversary
badges and cockpit embroidery." Csaba Csere in Car and Driver,
2003
For consignment, a 2003 Chevrolet Corvette 50th Anniversary
convertible with a title verified 6,359 actual miles. This one has
been garage kept and represents the route many anniversary owners
took, that is, to drive the car minimally and keep the miles ultra
low and as a result, the car presents in immaculate condition.
Exterior
The Corvette cove with faux vent on the front quarter harkens back
50 years, and as the first Vettes were topless and special50th
Anniversary Red drapes the exterior of this car. What's different
from those days is the sharp wedge shape of the C5, a low nose
leads upward to a rear deck lid that is considerably higher, giving
the car a slightly raked appearance. The tan convertible canvas is
in great condition here and contains a glass rear with a defog
function, and the slight bronze hue to the five spoke wheels pick
up on the soft top color nicely. Epic quad exhaust are center exit
of course, while special badging adorns the nose and front quarter
panels. There are no exterior flaws on this well preserved '03.
Let's take a look inside!
Interior
Shale leather, a shade of calming beige, power adjustable high back
buckets embroidered with "Corvette" name and 50th anniversary
crossed flags await you and they're in immaculate shape. Sliding in
will put you into a cockpit with an AM/FM/CD sound system with Bose
Speakers, dual zone electronic A/C, a driver's info center on the
dash above the console, cruise control, and power locks and power
windows. It's all in very good condition, obviously well cared for,
right down to the tan shifter and center console. The beige carpet
below, which is not easy to keep clean, presents as showroom fresh
here as it covers the transmission hump and works its way to the
modest package shelves behind the seats. Matching carpeted mats on
the top are also excellent and wear the 50th anniversary
embroidered emblem.
Drivetrain
Under the reverse opening hood, we find the 5.7 liter LS1 fuel
injected V8 nestled in a clean engine bay, backed by the desirable
T56 6-speed manual transmission and rated at 350 horsepower. The
rear axle houses 3.42 gears with limited slip.
Undercarriage
Exactly as you would expect for a sub 10k miles garage kept
Corvette and that is, near assembly line fresh. That dual exhaust
included original equipment mufflers that emit short pipes to the
chrome tips. Double wishbone cast aluminum upper and lower control
arms, transverse mounted composite leaf springs, and monotube shock
absorbers make up the suspension for the front and the rear. Of
course, power disc brakes are the only set up worthy of America's
great sports car and they're here at every wheel.
Drive-Ability
Talk about a time capsule, this is like stepping back 22 years and
yet still feels modern enough for confident and comfortable
driving. Predictably, everything works in the car and it provides a
spirited ride with go-kart-like handling, straight tracking, and
quick stops. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these
functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot
guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your
purchase.
Just 7,547 convertible 50thAnniversary editions were produced so if
you missed out on getting one new, here's your opportunity to
scratch that itch. This is one of the finest examples we've seen
and checks all the boxes for fun drives, collectability, and darn
good looks!
