"Hundreds of thousands of people now own and drive Ford V8 cars.
Some neighbor or friend of yours has one. If we told you what we
think of the car, you might say we are prejudiced, so we let the
car and its owner tell you. The 1934 car is even better than the
1933, and that was our best car up to its time. The new car is more
beautiful, faster, more powerful, gives more miles to the gallon,
better oil economy, is easier riding, cheaper to own and operate
than any car we ever built. The Ford V8 will tell you its own
story." From a 1934 print ad.
For consignment, a 1934 Ford Model 40 3 window coupe with a title
verified 3,556 actual miles. This Streetbeast fiberglass bodied
street rod was built in 1992 and received fresh paint in 2021. The
car comes to you with receipts of the build.
Exterior
Two stage bright red paint was masterfully applied here in a
monochromatic dream ride where just the right amount of polished
metals steal your eyes. That includes the bumpers, headlight
buckets, grille, and the chrome steel wheels, 14-inch in front and
15-inch in back. Of course, the engine is visible too and is also
dressed up, but this red paint will get heads turning long before
they see the engine! The chopped windows set the side mirrors high
on the window frame which definitely looks cool and the upright
grille is more finely straked than a Norelco razor with near
seamless integration. Out back, teardrop tail lights come at the
end of the sweeping wide rear fenders and chrome exhaust tips
protrude past the bumper. We could find no glaring imperfections on
this sweet ride.
Interior
Black cloth door panels are column stitched with a carpeted lower
panel and map pockets and both doors present cleanly. The same
material covers the robustly cushioned bucket seats with matching
cloth covering the back wall and headliner which has a few drooping
areas. Up front, a Grant steering wheel fronts the body colored
dash housing VDO vintage style gauges with brass colored bezels
while some GM knobs are used for lights and wipers. On the mid
panel to the right we find an A/C unit and an AM/FM/Cassette radio
and from there, we focus our attention on the B&M shifter on
the floor, ready for action and surrounded by niceblack carpet. The
trunk is finished with gray cloth panels and houses a battery
box.
Drivetrain
Chrome valve covers, polished headers, and some other showy
components highlight the 350ci V8 under the hood, bored .060 over
and fueled via a Holley 4-barrel carburetor. It's mated to a TH350
3-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the 10 bolt rear
axle.
Undercarriage
Clean conditions prevail underneath where the dual exhaust runs
through FlowMaster mufflers just before flanking the chrome
differential cover and heading out past the bumper with chrome
tips. Brake configuration is front disc and rear drum and
suspension includes a Mustang II front end and a 4 link with coil
overs in back. There's a film of oil on the pans and flywheel
cover.
Drive-Ability
We love the reverse opening doors and the comfortable seats and
from there, we crank the 350 to life and it lets us know with a
healthy exhaust growl and smooth idle. We roll this red rod onto
the test loop and run it through its paces and find it tracks well,
handles nicely, and accelerates with all the cajnes you'll need.
Much to our delight, all functions on this build operate just as
they're intended to! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these
functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot
guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your
purchase.
If you're looking for a street rod with clean lines, a comfortable
interior, and the venerable 350, this one checks all the boxes. It
will be ready for cruising at the car show on the very day you pick
it up and with A/C on hand, this is the one cruiser you can travel
with in summer. This is the complete package, tied up with a big
red bow. It's time to give yourself the rod you've always wanted.
You will celebrate a birthday in the future, so why not make it an
early present?
