For Sale: 1937 Fargo Pickup in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1937 Fargo Pickup

The Fargo Motor Company started building trucks in 1913 and after the name was dropped, it was reintroduced in 1928 when Chrysler purchased Fargo. While rebadged Dodge trucks eventually dropped the name altogether, it actually lived on with Dodge's overseas production of trucks in places like Europe, Asia, and Latin America. When Chrysler Europe was sold to Peugeot in 1978, the name was dropped for good.

For consignment, a 1937 Fargo Pickup truck showing 638 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This is a rare find as only 1,824 Fargo trucks, sold by Plymouth dealers in Canada, were produced and there can't be many in this fine restored condition.

Exterior
A stunning presentation with two stage Bright Coach Maroon and color keyed 16-inch steel wheels augmented with white wall tires and honey colored wood staking on the bed. Just standing still, it's a sharp truck. Up front, a tall oval grille houses a diamond mesh front which is flanked by headlights with large bullet shaped buckets in line with the long trim detail on the louvered vents along the engine cover. The windshield has rounded edges trimmed in maroon and features a unique roll out capability. Beautifully treated wood planks alternate with stainless bed rails to create a showy platform in the bed that houses a body colored tank. A wide running board and a side mounted white wall, along with chrome bumpers complete this good looking vehicle. Various scuffs, scratches, and chips are found in several places and a bit of touch up paint could remedy the imperfections.

Interior
Black grain vinyl is used on the simple square door panels that house the window crank and door handle and both panels are immaculate and serve as the gateway to the bench in the same materials and clean condition. The simple black steering wheel shows some patina and leads to the body colored dash with two central gauges with a twin pack added below to replace the functions of the vintage oil pressure and water temperature meters. A modern knob has been added to the floor shifter, black loop carpet cleanly covers the floor, and a wavy black vinyl headliner has been added and continues to the back wall. On the windshield header, we find that handle for the manual and singular wiper on the windshield.

Drivetrain
Behind the engine covers, a clean 216ci inline six cylinder is found, with a 1-barrel carburetor and rated at 75 horsepower. A 3-speed manual sends power to the 8 inch axle in back.

Undercarriage
Clean and ultimately simple underneath where a single exhaust finds a stock style muffler and exits just under the rear bumper. Drum brakes occupy front and rear and so do leaf springs above and below the axles. There's minimal surface rust, almost none, and dry conditions throughout.

Drive-Ability
After starting the truck and getting it out on the test loop, it doesn't take look to realize the brakes are fairly weak and the pedal is firm, so we'll keep our speeds to pedestrian level and find a pleasant ride with the somewhat vague steering of the era, but smooth nonetheless and plenty of power to move this car with confidence. There are few functions to test but it still scores 100 and we don't have far to go to return this Fargo to the mall. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

You've seen vintage Chevy trucks, Fords of course, and even the typical Dodge. But how many Fargo's have you seen? In seven years of business, this is only the second we've had the honor of representing. It's special, cool, and rare, and this one is ready to meet the masses. There's no badging on this truck anywhere, so unless you find old emblems or create a show sign, be prepared for lots of puzzled looks and inquisitive questioning.
