The third generation Mustang is frequently referred to as the Fox
Body Mustang since it used the new Fox platform. Fox Body Mustangs
were produced between 1979 and 1993, the longest generation of
Mustang to date, though there were several significant body updates
made throughout this generation. Though the Fox Body Mustangs were
popular at their release, they've only gained popularity in the
years since then and has gained a reputation as a modders
dream.
For consignment, a 1987 Ford Mustang GT convertible showing 114,751
miles, but the true miles are unknown. Gotta Have It Green first
showed up on the 2013 Boss 302 and has since sparked a community of
Ford owners who may not share year, make, and model, but who share
a love for this bright green hue.
Exterior
The classic Foxbody GT here is enhanced with a few custom touches,
most notably the smoked lenses all around, hood pins, and the duct
fronted cowl hood. The Gotta Have It Green is contrasted by the
stunning 17-inch OE Racing Wheels with staggered width tires and
Baer brakes displayed on the front calipers over slotted and
drilled discs. The black canvas soft top is in great condition and
dual chrome tips out back emerge modestly from under the rear
valance. Factory ducts on the extended body panels give the pony
car a bit more aggression while the aftermarket front air dam and
intake provides smooth surfaces for moving air. The exterior is in
immaculate condition and we could not find any imperfections.
Interior
Black cloth inserts dress a door panel that is simple and
monochromatic and both present cleanly. Leather bucket seats with
suede inserts also include Corbeau four point racing harnesses and
yellow stitching with just a touch of wear on the ingress point for
the driver. The rear 2+2 shares the color and materials and is in
spotless shape. The standard steering wheel adds some thumb buttons
which was a big deal in 1987 and the basic dash for the GT includes
a tachometer even as an external unit with shift light has been
added to the top of the dash. Below it, the A/C dials and an
AM/FM/CD player just ahead of the shifter in a clean, black boot,
5.0 liter branded carpeted mats cover the main black carpet and
also fit the truck with floor coverage, all in clean condition.
Drivetrain
A BBK cold air intake system accompanies the 5.0 liter V8 under the
hood, fuel injected and mated to a T5 5-speed manual transmission
that sends power to the Ford 8.8" rear. Headers are first in line
for the exhaust system.
Undercarriage
Generally clean underneath with some surface rust include the
flaking variety on the rear bumper brace and gas tank strap anchor.
We note invasive rust on the inner lower rear quarter panels as
well. Dry conditions prevail with the exception of some oil at the
base of the rear differential, while some beefy sway bars have been
added front and rear. Lowering springs have been added and a 4 link
accompanies the coil springs in back. Dual exhaust travels through
Mac Mufflers on their way to the polished tips. For the power
brakes, Baer front discs are used while standard drums reside out
back.
Drive-Ability
We strap into this green machine and crank the engine to life,
shift into first, and head out to the loop where the engine
provides some excellent acceleration and the tire and wheel combo
along with suspension components create very nice handling, however
there is some movement of the steering column. In addition, we note
the horn, right rear power window, A/C, and reverse lights are not
working. All other functions get a green light. While Classic Auto
Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of
our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working
at the time of your purchase.
If you haven't noticed, Foxbodys are hot. Kids of the 80's are now
adults of 2025 and in a better position to own one of these
legendary Mustangs. Even with Grand Nationals roaming the streets
in '87, Mustang GT's were feared and respected and this slightly
modded and beautifully painted edition brings back some adolescent
aspirations. If you "gotta have it" give us a call.
