1955 Chevrolet Bel Air/210 "Shorty" Wagon - Custom Gator Tailgate
Cruiser Few vehicles capture the spirit of 1970s custom car culture
quite like a 'Shorty' wagon, and this 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air/210
Wagon is a standout example. Finished in bright orange and blue and
decked out in University of Florida colors, this unique custom has
earned a reputation as the number one attraction at tailgate
parties and football weekends. The professionally shortened
'Shorty' conversion was completed by a previous owner long before
the current owner's stewardship. These custom builds were a popular
trend during the custom car era of the 1970s, achieved by cutting
down both the body shell and frame rails to reduce wheelbase length
by roughly 18 inches, creating the distinctive compact wagon
profile seen here. Power comes from a 350ci Chevrolet V8 reportedly
sourced from a Corvette, though the exact year is unknown. The
engine is paired with a desirable 3-speed manual transmission
shifted on the column. A replacement clutch was installed and
performs as it should. The wagon starts easily, runs strong, and
drives exceptionally well for a vintage custom. This Shorty is
equipped with manual brakes, manual steering, and no air
conditioning, delivering an authentic old-school driving
experience. The body shows typical age-related rust in places, but
the seller reports no rust-through holes. It presents as a solid
driver that can be enjoyed immediately while being improved as
desired. Whether you're a University of Florida fan looking for the
ultimate tailgating vehicle, a collector of period custom cars, or
simply someone who appreciates unique one-of-a-kind builds, this
1955 Chevrolet Shorty Wagon is guaranteed to draw attention
wherever it goes. Highlights Custom 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air/210
