1940 Willys Coupe - All Steel, Long-Term Ownership, Street-Driven All-steel 1937 Willys coupe fitted with 1940 Deluxe front end, rear fenders, and deck lid. Original frame has been boxed, triangulated, and fitted with an 8-point chrome-moly cage. Built by Pro Mod racer John Scialpi. I've owned the car for 37 years and drive it weekly. Drivetrain Engine is a Dart Little M small-block, 416 cu. in., Callies crank, Eagle rods, JE forged pistons (7.8:1), balanced and blueprinted. Dart Platinum Pro 1 heads, ported and polished with large valves. Custom long-runner air-gap intake topped with a Littlefield 871 Hi-Helix blower using Kobelco Superman rotors. Water injection system installed; never had detonation or heating issues. Engine dynoed at 840 hp at 6% underdriven. Runs on 91 octane. Transmission is a modified 4L80 overdrive with lock-up converter. Rear end is a Ford 9-inch Detroit Locker with 4.30 gears. Cruises at 70 mph at 2500 rpm. Chassis & Brakes Original Willys frame, boxed and triangulated. Four-wheel Aerospace Components disc brakes. American Racing polished 5-spoke wheels with Mickey Thompson radials. Interior Procar leather buckets, full leather interior, charcoal German square-weave carpet. 22-gallon fuel tank. Driving & Reliability Car is street-driven every week.
