1955 Chevrolet Belair Nomad. Work was started on the body, by
cutting, welding and replacing with new rocker panels, complete
front floor pans, X-bracing, rebuilding rear floor panels, splash
pan, mini-tubs the rear wheel housings and inner wheel wells,
rebuilding inner and outer rear quarter panels, replacing rear
quarter windows with steel side panels, adding rear roof third
brake light housing, smoothing and filling firewall and enclosing
cowl vent area. The body was completely bead blasted, then all
holes and weak metal was cut out and new metal panels were welded
in, hammered and shaped to fit. The chassis was replaced with an
original 1955 California 'seamless' (one piece) frame being
modified for safety and updating by relocating rear shock mounts
with new X-member with an additional rear X-channel and new
transmission X-mount. 4 wheel power disk brakes were added and a
rebuilt GM '605' power steering unit. Updating the front suspension
included Heidt tubular upper and lower 'A' arms along with Heidt's
2' dropped spindles. A TCI heavy duty 1 3/8' front stabilizer was
mounted on front end. The front end utilizes Ride Tech Shock Wave
double air bag, model #SKW1010-A ,with HAL adjustable billet
shocks. These units were originally designed for 70-81 Camaro, but
bolt directly on front end with no modifications. This provides 3'
of travel on the front end (at 100 psi). The A arms have rubber
bump stops. Rear suspension has RB's relocated frame pocketed
dropped leaf springs with Ride Tech Shock Wave '9000' sleeve type
bags over HAL Adjustable billet shocks, model #SKW9001, are mounted
in front of axle. 2 of the 4 leaf springs were removed and a rubber
bump stop is located top of axle. The running gear came from a 1993
Pontiac Firebird TA. This includes the condenser, radiator, dual
electric fans, power brake booster, 350 cid LT-1 motor, 700R4/4L60
4 speed transmission with overdrive, and a GM 10 bolt 3:23
posi-traction rear end.
