In 1993 Ford and their Special Vehicle Team (“SVT”) upped the ante with the Mustang Cobra as the flagship of the new SVT Division at Ford. Finished in Teal Clearcoat metallic with gray leather and no sunroof, according to the Marti Report, this last year of the Fox Bodies example is one of 802 with these paint and trim codes. Manufactured May 13, 1993 and delivered to Milford Ohio, the current Nashville, Tennessee owner has enjoyed it since 2006. When this second owner took possession in 2006, the mileage was 31,272. The current mileage is 52,512. 21,240 miles enjoyed over 18 years is just enough to keep everything exercised including three flawless Hot Rod Power Tours. The car is presented with a clean Tennessee title in the owner’s possession, a clean car fax, extensive documentation and the SVT Certificate documenting this as #3013 of 4993 1993 Mustang Cobras. Interestingly, the SVT Cobra Certificate shows a total production number 107 cars lower than the Marti Report of 5,100. The difference is the Marti Report includes the 107 Cobra R cars while the SVT Certificate does not include the R Cars.
But there something really unique about this car. Remember, it lives in the Nashville area today. Wait for it…
In 1999, the original owner embarked on some modest upgrades focused on power. With today’s high horsepower cars, a rating of 235hp and 280 Ft/lbs. of torque doesn’t sound that impressive. But in a light chassis, the responsive roller 5.0L is a fun platform and part of what makes these cars so much fun to drive. The original owner had ceramic coated stainless headers, high flow cats, an X pipe and Flowmaster exhaust installed along with a cold air intake, MSD ignition, 250 LPH fuel pump, Taylor wires, a larger Griffin aluminum radiator, electric fan, underdrive pulleys, a Centerforce clutch and an aluminum driveshaft. No internal engine modifications were made. It is stock and original. The chassis dyno run performed post installation, shows 251hp and 289 Ft/lbs. at the wheels. Considering the factory power rating was measured at the flywheel, these minor modifications demonstrate an improvement of just over 50 HP. That’s a 21% increase; a testament to how well these Fox Body platforms respond to even just a little love. The dyno data sheet is part of the documentation included with the car.
In 2009 the current owner (who is now 79!) decided to take advantage of technology and improve the handling. Maximum Motorsports was tapped to provide only the best. Upper and lower height adjustable rear control arms, Bilstein Quad shocks, panhard mounts and aluminum panhard bar and a chassis kit consisting of sub-frame connectors, a strut tower brace and adjustable upper front strut mounts. Then in 2013 a 3.55:1 ring gear was professionally installed. In 2018 the wheels were professionally restored with fresh powder coat, new center caps and Michelin rubber. The door panel map pockets were professionally restored in 2024. It makes for a great package that is so much fun to drive!
Other than the Power Tour trips, where the majority of the miles were enjoyed, this car traveled mostly from garage to car show / cars and coffee locally. New battery in 2024 and 2025 oil change. This is a clean, well-cared for solid #2 car you won’t be afraid to enjoy.
And now the Nashville connection. In 2018, an up and coming country / rock artist, Brandon Lay was on tour with Kenny Chesney and looking for his dream car to shoot a marketing and promotional get-to-know-me video. You guessed it! Brandon’s dream car is a 1993 Mustang Cobra in teal. The video was produced by RTM productions in Franklin Tennessee. RTM is the group behind MuscleCar TV, Extreme 4X4, Detroit Muscle, Power Nation TV and several other enthusiast build shows.
