Vehicle Description
1992 Chevrolet Scottsdale 1500 Long Bed Pickup
The city of Scottsdale, Arizona, was named after Winfield Scott, an
early settler who purchased land near the Arizona Canal. Chevrolet
first adopted the name, derived from the city name, in 1975, for
the mid trim level option, set between the base Cheyenne and top of
the line Silverado.
For consignment, a 1992 Chevrolet Scottsdale 1500 long bed pickup
truck with a title verified 100,371 actual miles. This is a two
owner truck and the second owner conducted some needed service that
included steering components, transmission, a new water pump and
A/C compressor and all of this occurred within the past few years.
Once ubiquitous work trucks, yes ladies and gentlemen, 1992 is now
a classic! But many people are also reverting to the more
dependable trucks of the past for actual work. Take your pick with
this pickup!
Exterior
The two tone configuration of the paint is attractive, here with
Medium Blue Metallic over Light Blue Metallic which is intersected
by a band of black trim and the 1500 insignia. Basic 15-inch wheels
keep things simple and are wrapped in white wall tires. Large
bumperettes front the chrome bumper ahead of the eggcrate grille
and desirable headlight profile that puts size matched marker
lights below the center chrome trim line of the grille, and that's
a darn good design. In back, basic and clean with the brand on the
tailgate, corner tail lights, and a stepped chrome bumper with
plastic topside. A sliding rear window overlooks a clean bed that's
not without some minor evidence of use. Imperfections are limited
to some rust bubbles by the rocker trim and a pinstripe that's
tattered and faded in places.
Interior
Basic and blue, the door panels combine formed plastic and vinyl
inserts and even include a storage bin at the base and both are
nice and clean. The blue tweed bench seat is in fantastic
condition, and the floor is covered by a one piece rubber mat that
traverses the transmission tunnel to protect the rubberized floor
covering below it. That leaves the shifter for the steering column
behind the standard steering wheel of the day and a no nonsense
instrument cluster putting the essential information behind a
plexiglass cover. Gray plastic buttons adorn the AM/FM radio and
climate panels which display via the green digital style readouts
that were still futuristic in '92. We have some typical sagging to
the headliner above but overall, the interior belies the verified
mileage on the truck. It's obviously been pampered.
Drivetrain
Clean conditions prevail under the hood where we find the 5.0 liter
V8, fuel injected and mated to a 700R4 4-speed automatic
transmission, a Jasper unit installed in 2016 according to our
consignor, which sends power to the 10 bolt rear with 3.08
gears.
Undercarriage
The undercoating applied to this truck originally has held up well
and it's one of those clean undersides that was likely kept away
from snow, salt, and maybe even rain. It is rust free, however we
note some residual oil on the pan, some sling from the front and
rear U-joints, and a film of oil on the rear differential. The
single exhaust flows through a stock style muffler and exits
without fanfare through a steel pipe behind a rear wheel.
Suspension consists of coil springs in front and leaf springs in
the back, while power brakes are supplied as front disc and rear
drum.
Drive-Ability
The accommodating interior is a nice place to be, open and roomy
and analog. Fuel injection does its job and the 5.0 liter comes to
life with a smooth idle and once on the test loop, provides decent
power and acceleration for the long bed. Visibility is excellent,
of course, the good sized side mirrors help. We note the radio is
not working and the wiper switch seems worn with the wipers
reverting to the intermittent setting when turned off. So, two
gremlins for a truck with 100k miles is not bad, and every other
item on the truck functions as expected. While Classic Auto Mall
represents that these functions were working at the time of our
test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at
the time of your purchase.
We probably used the term simple a dozen times in this description
but that's the beauty of this well maintained truck. It's
everything you need for Main Street cruising, everyday use, or
moving the kids out of the house. Kept stock and as is, you've got
a great classic. But if you're into modifying and customizing, the
wheels in your brain are already spinning. This is a clean,
straight example ready for a new caretaker.
