For Sale: 1966 Ford Mustang in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1966 Ford Mustang Convertible

Advertisements became popular reminders of the Mustang's youthful spirit, such as one featuring two mature adults sitting in a new Mustang with the words, "Youth is a wonderful thing. What a crime to waste it on children". It was the car to have it you were seeking the fountain of youth. The 1966 Ford Mustang was the car to have if you were looking to win over your neighbor or hit the road for fun and adventure. It was also a must have for enthusiastic drivers and car enthusiasts who simply liked to drive.

For consignment, a 1966 Ford Mustang convertible with a title verified 77,285 actual miles. This is a nice example with original sheet metal and glass, according to our consignor and colors that match the door tag codes. Who's up for some fun and adventure?

Exterior
One repaint according to our consignor sometime in the 70's, but the single stage Candy Apple Red is still looking great, nicely contrasted of course by the white canvas soft top. 14-inch wheels wear the correct wheel covers and, in this case, some old whitewall tires. The side body lines terminate at the ornamental three ribbed duct in the quarter panel while the Mustang emblem and name ride the front. Out back, it's nothing but iconic design with tail lights that can be mistaken for none other and reverse lights set in the valance. The gas cap on the latch panel breaks up the run of red and sets the tone while the plastic back window is clear. The front is unmistakable as well and ranks high as one of the most popular classic cars in the history of classic cars. Rocker panel trim completes that fantastic design and that's where we find a bit of paint runs, the only imperfection we can find on the exterior.

Interior
Black vinyl door cards, just as Ford designers put them together, present cleanly on both sides and the black palette continues with the bucket seats with woven pattern inserts, shared by the rear bench, and all in very good condition. Everything from the steering wheel, instrument cluster, dashboard, AM radio, and vent levers present as original. A center console houses the Ford T-shifter and is adorned with a ribbed silver stripe down the center. Looped carpet on the floor does show some areas of fading but is fully intact and topped by Mustang branded rubber mats while the trunk enjoys the presence of plaid vinyl mat that was the trend in this period. A spare is also on board.

Drivetrain
Looking very original is the 200ci inline 6 cylinder, good for 120 horsepower and topped by a 1-barrel carburetor. A C4 3-speed automatic transmission is behind it and sends power to the 7.25" rear with 2.83 gears. Drum brakes are on all four wheels.

Undercarriage
Driver quality but generally clean underneath, she has some typical surface rust but none of the nasty stuff. Also some residual oil on the pans and some on the rear differential which may be coming from the pinion seal. A single exhaust runs through a stock style muffler before terminating in the back and suspension is made up of coil springs up front and leaf springs in the back.

Drive-Ability
Into the legend we go and the six cylinder does what it's been doing for 59 years, starts! We're taking it easy on this lap as the tires are old and note the car pulls left likely due to these tired tires. Beyond that, the car runs well and all functions afforded to the driver operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Get in line, in fact get to the head of the line. There is no doubt that convertible classic Mustangs are a top seller at Classic Auto Mall and this one represents an incredible opportunity to purchase a very original car in great condition. Seriously, don't sleep on this too many nights, because it won't be here long. Our job is to make this car visible to the world, so you're competing with roughly 8 billion people. Are you dialing yet?
