Vehicle Description
This 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible is an absolutely marvelous
summer cruiser with eye-catching curb appeal and great options! By
the late 1950s, American car enthusiasts were craving performance
machines with big engines, but those powerplants were only found in
large, full-size cars. In the early 1960s, rising fuel prices
pushed automakers toward smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles-yet
these compacts lacked the horsepower and style younger buyers
wanted. These early compact cars just lacked that "cool" factor.
Seeing the gap in the market, visionary Ford executive Lee Iacocca
championed a new kind of car: sporty, affordable, and
youth-oriented, with a long hood, short deck, and plenty of style.
That vision became reality when the Ford Mustang debuted at the New
York World's Fair on April 17, 1964. Instantly iconic, the Mustang
not only became one of Ford's most successful models ever, but also
sparked an entirely new "Pony Car" segment in the American
automotive landscape. After the highly successful mid-year launch
of the 1964 model, Ford rolled out the 1965 Mustang-retaining its
signature look while adding practical upgrades, including a switch
from the outdated generator to a modern alternator, boosting the
base 6-cylinder from 170 to 200 cubic inches, and replacing the
base entry-level 260 V8 with the bigger and more powerful 289 V8.
This particular example comes to us from a long-term owner who
clearly enjoyed the car during their ownership. Under the hood on
this '65 Mustang is a 289 cubic inch V8 engine fed by a single 2
barrel carburetor that together were said to have produced 200
horsepower in the C-Code configuration when new. Exhaust exits the
289 power plant via single tailpipe exhaust system that produces a
wonderful sound. The 289 V8 is backed by a C-4 Automatic
transmission that makes this Mustang Convertible an easy car for
anybody to drive. The white vinyl convertible top is in wonderful
shape and is easily raised and lowered by a single person. With
optional power steering, maneuvering this classic Pony car in and
out of tight parking space at the neighborhood ice cream parlor or
the local car show is a total breeze and the overall driving
experience is much improved. Further aiding with parking efforts
and lane changes is a driver's side chrome mirror that helps ensure
you have nothing in your blind spot. Riding on a set of Goodyear
Wingfoot HP raised letter radial tires mounted on steel wheels with
deluxe wheel covers, this '65 Mustang has a great look and even
better ride. The chrome and brightwork around the exterior of this
1965 Ford Mustang shows particularly well and complements the
overall look of the car. The body has been correctly refinished in
Rangoon Red paint, just how the car came off the Dearborn, Michigan
production line back in 1965. The interior of this 1965 Ford
Mustang Convertible is absolutely stunning! The front bucket seats
and rear bench seat have been restored correctly in Red upholstery.
The matching red door panels, center console, steering wheel, red
padded dash, and brand new carpeting and floor mats are all in
fantastic condition retaining a wonderful stock appearance. You'll
be able to stay cool even on the hottest summer days since this
Mustang comes equipped with factory air conditioning. The
instrument cluster also remains in its stock configuration complete
with a 120 MPH speedometer, temperature gauge, and fuel gauge. The
dash is finished off with a glovebox and upgraded AM/FM/Cassette
retro-style entertainment system so that you can listen to all of
your tunes while cruising down the road. Whether you're buying your
very first classic car or you're adding to your existing stable of
classic Mustangs, this 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible would make an
excellent choice. Give Ellingson's a call today at
