This 1988 Mazda RX-7 Convertible is not only an ultra-desirable
Brilliant Black classic. But it's also a rare, well-cared for
machine. It makes for a drop-top that's distinct, premium, and
preserved - all in the first glance.
Black convertibles always have an upper-class look. The level of
gloss and shine you see today is a testament to both the quality
work of Mazda and how well this RX-7 has been respected from day
one. But what we really love about these second-generation cars is
that Mazda offered a European exotic level of design, while still
retaining the Japanese build quality. The factory BBS-style wheels
to really showcase the premium look of this already stylish
RX-7.
With the flip of a switch, convertible top powers down to reveal a
sporty and comfortable interior. The largest bit of color you'll
get in this gray interior is the red/orange glow of the very sporty
gauge package. But more than just a pure sports machine, the RX-7
was Mazda's flagship car with plenty of luxury features that
includes power windows, power locks, cruise control, and the
factory Pioneer AM/FM/CD/cassette stereo. This was specially
engineered to be a quite thoughtful convertible. Plus, the air
conditioning is blowing cold to help make sure you can keep the top
down into the summer season. These RX-7s also introduced unique
stereo speakers in the headrests. This allows you to hear your
favorite tunes no matter how fast you go with the top down.
The engine bay has the same level of wonderfully stock presentation
as the rest of the car. And it's always great to have the motor
ready to show off, because it's a big talking point of the RX-7.
Mazda was the only car of this era offering rotary power to the
public. The dual-rotor 13B rotory engine can fit behind the front
axle for ideal mid-engine placement. It may be smaller than the V6
and V8 engines you'd expect under the hood of a sports car, but
this revolutionary motor makes just as much power, if not more. Not
only is it powerful, but these motors have a high-revving
smoothness that's just perfect for those who love the grand tour.
The five-speed manual transmission, fully independent suspension,
well-balanced weight distribution, and four-wheel disc brakes
package combine to offer the ideal mixture of performance and
comfort.
