Vehicle Description
1930 Ford Model A Tudor Sedan
The Tudor sedan body style was one of the first Model A body
styles. In fact, the "mysterious new Ford" seen on the streets of
Detroit in the fall of 1927 was indeed the new Model A Tudor sedan.
The most popular of all Model A body styles, the Standard Tudor was
available in all four Model A years, with well over 1.25 million of
them being built between 1927 and 1931.
For consignment, a 1930 Ford Model A Tudor sedan showing 1,035
miles, but the true miles are unknown. Including all styles, Ford
sold more than one million Model A's in 1930. Today, the Model A
Club of America has over 10,000 members worldwide and events
throughout the year.
Exterior
Black paints covers our A here and is accented with a double red
pinstripe that alone is an attractive feature, but matched with the
red 19-inch wire wheels makes it even better. An especially
handsome angle is the rear where a mounted red spare wheel is
flanked by the stoplights and riding close to the red pinstripe
overhead. Split ribbon chrome bumpers in back are matched in design
by the full ribbon up front and both now wear amber markers. Up
front, headlights are augmented with cowl lights while mirrors on
both A-pillars provide a continual, symmetrical pattern of circles,
while a single black horn up front disrupts the pattern, but we're
okay with that. A visor leads to the rubberized top, not perfect
but fully intact with a small patch noted. Other imperfections
include numerous scratches, cracks and chips, some of which have
been touched up.
Interior
Textured tan leatherette covers the inner doors cleanly and
includes a tweed map pocket and these materials are repeated on the
front bucket seats, simple and clean conditions mirrored by the
rear bench now sporting seat belts. A four spoke steering wheel
presents to the driver leading to the painted dash and metal faced
instrument panel in the center. The footwells and rear walls are
covered with the tan leatherette material and look nice while the
floor wears a rubber mat that surrounds the black shifter and
handbrake, showing some appropriate patina. A cloth headliner is in
place and is in very good condition.
Drivetrain
Behind the cover, a rebuilt 201ci inline four cylinder, rated at 40
horsepower and fueled by a 1-barrel carburetor. A 3-speed manual
gets things moving and routes power through 3.78 gears out back.
Mechanical drum brakes are found at both ends. The car retains its
6 volt system.
Undercarriage
Oil on the rear differential, some around the engine, grease on the
wheels, a touch of surface rust, all fairly common on a Model A of
this caliber and found on an otherwise clean underside. The exhaust
runs cleanly through a stock style muffler and terminates under the
car and the suspension consists of transverse leaf springs front
and rear.
Drive-Ability
The four banger starts right up and we put her in gear and hit the
loop. Our consignor states the tires were newer two years ago and
provide a nice ride on the big 19-inch wheels. We note the horn,
wiper, and turn signals don't work. Also, the car pulls left upon
braking. All other functions available operate as they should.
While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were
working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these
functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
