Vehicle Description
1954 Ford F100 Pickup
If you're a fan of those big televised auctions, or watch them on
live streaming YouTube, you're probably a student of trends and
have noticed which vehicles create a buzzing bidding war and which
go softly into the night, perhaps even unsold. For a number of
years, pickup trucks, whether from recent vintage or true classics
like those of the 50's, have consistently been hot in the market
and because they are desired by a vast audience, we're always
thrilled to represent them here at Classic Auto Mall.
For consignment, a 1954 Ford F100 pickup truck showing 95 miles,
but the true miles are unknown. If you could have the ideal truck,
it might have a 351ci V8 under the hood, new tires, and a Dana 44
in the pumpkin. Well, your ship has just come in as they say, and
awaits your instructions for delivery.
Exterior
Cars and trucks of the 50's had these articulated fenders, and they
look so good on a pickup and when coupled with a running board,
present in the desirable step side configuration. Vermillion Red
paint mirrors our overhead lights with the intense clarity of a
fire engine and covers the rounded edges of this once common work
truck with two stage precision. The white grille not only provides
classic contrast but is a robust piece of steel that seems to serve
as guardian for the modest round single headlights at the ends.
That black running board offers contrast too and is visually
connected to the 15-inch black Cragar wheels wearing Cooper Cobra
tires with an early 2024 date code. Like fine furniture, the wood
planks in the bed are immaculate and showy with alternating
stainless bed rails. Ford is embossed on the tailgate, of course,
and provided the company with an important branding opportunity
with every unit sold. We note some filler and surface rust down
low, along with a crack in the paint. Beyond that, it's in
excellent shape.
Interior
Soft paneled red door cards fit the shell nicely, leading to a pair
of gray leather bucket seats from a later model vehicle, showing
some patina but fully intact and ready for a pair of adventure
seekers. We love that the vintage steering wheel is still on board
and frames the instrument cluster with newer gauges adorned with
the Ford oval on each bezel. The remainder of the dash is solid
red, just like the outside. A Lokar shifter rises from the floor
that benefits from plush gray carpet covering it and a black vinyl
headliner is clean and smooth above our heads. Visors and a dome
light are included for your driving pleasure.
Drivetrain
This very attractive engine under the hood, with its blue block and
polished valve covers, is a 351ci Windsor V8 topped by a Holley
4-barrel carburetor and backed by an FMX 3-speed automatic
transmission. Power is routed to the Dana 44 axle sporting 3.92
gears. You can't miss the bright gold brake booster under the hood
and that assists the front disc and rear drum set up. Ron Francis
wiring connects the 12 volt system this truck now operates on.
Undercarriage
We find nice conditions underneath with clean componentry and just
a few drops of oil on the pan and flywheel cover. No grime, no rust
to speak of, and not even road spray is found. Dual exhaust
terminates just after passing through stock style mufflers under
the bed while suspension is the simple system of leaf springs front
and rear.
Drive-Ability
A tap of the gas, a turn of the key and the dash lights up, and so
does the truck. Around the loop we go in this red flyer, the new
tires sticking to the ground providing straight tracking and
handling they could have only dreamed about in 1954. But the
experience is otherwise not that far removed from 1954, blending
some modern components with a true vintage profile. On our short
ride, we note the speedometer, odometer, and trip odometer are not
working but all other functions do as expected. While Classic Auto
Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of
our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working
at the time of your purchase.
Vintage American trucks will never cease to be cool, and this one
is red hot. Just imagine your Christmas or Thanksgiving cards this
year, featuring you and your family gathered around this beautiful
truck, full of presents or pumpkins, depending on the season. Now
imagine cruising main street in this beauty with your best friend
in the passenger seat. First, we have to get it into your garage,
where you'll be able to sneak a peek and maybe pinch yourself
having finally fulfilled the dream of owning a vintage American
pickup.
