For 1966, GM elected to keep changes to the Corvette to a relative minimum, largely due to their engineers focusing on the impending release of the third-generation car. Even still, the 1966 models offer a number of drivability and quality-of-life improvements. Firstly and most importantly, the available engine range was simplified, with buyers being offered two small-block and two big-block variations. For the car's appearance, a new "egg-crate" grille, restyled wheel covers, updated rocker trim, and the elimination of the coupe's extractor vents are some of the easiest tells brought for '66.
